You don't have to be in the same cart with another person, you can enjoy walking outside, and i just have an easier time concentrating.  Anyone else feel the same way?

I always enjoy walking more than taking a cart unless the course is an absolute killer with hills and such.  I like to get a feel for how far I'm hitting it and it's easier to walk off yardage.  I usually play really early in the morning when it's cart path only or sometimes before the course is actually open so walking saves a ton of time too.

I pretty much play the same regardless of walking or riding but I certainly enjoy walking a lot more than riding.

I only walk when I am alone, and I always play best by myself.  However when I am riding with my friends I tend to have more fun

+1----walking and carrying when alone= my best golf. Less stress, more concentration, and a bit of tranquility.

I say walking does wonder than riding.  It gives you time to warm up your body and I say you find your pace of play..a good rhythm.

I play much better when I walk.  In addition, I prefer walking as I get more exercise out of it.

It seems when I ride, my score is usually at least 5 strokes higher.  Maybe because I don't have time to calm down and clear my mind before my next shot.

When you ride, it's hit, speed to your ball, and hit again.  Not much time to relax in between shots.

I walk and carry all the time. Don't think it affects my game a whole lot. I have no problem with stamina at the end of a round carrying the bag. Last round I played with a cart was pretty good.

I typically walk and carry my bag when I play with the exception of 1 course (a ton of hills) or very hot and humid days. I do find I play better when I walk. I have more time to relax in between shots and think about the upcoming shot. My regular playing partners (brother and one of my friends are the same way).

I enjoy walking new courses in the area. However when I am playing with some friends one the weekend I enjoy the cart for a laid back round

My game suffers something awful if I ride. Last year I walked and pulled my bag on a pull cart. This year I have a new lightweight stand bag and I carry. I absolutely love carrying them. Better than putting the pull cart around for sure. I find that I visualize the course management better when I walk. Riding I seem to spend too much time yaking and not enough time thinking...

It's mostly because you just aren't used to riding, not because of anything so esoteric as clearing your mind or the purity of walking.  On most courses you don't play any faster than the group  in front of you anyway, so you still have about the same amount of time between shots, walking or riding.

I once felt the same way about riding, then 15 years ago foot problems started to make walking more than 9 holes quite painful, so I started using a cart more often when playing 18 holes.  Initially, I would walk 9 then ride 9, but I finally had to give up walking altogether.  At first, my scores went up a bit, but as I rode more often, they leveled out, then returned to the same level as when I walked.  Now I'm 65, have had both knee and foot surgeries, I ride exclusively, and I still shoot from high 70's to high 80's most of the time, pretty much where I was 20 years ago when I walked exclusively.  In three rounds this year I've shot 79 once, and 83 twice.

Golf is a game of adaptation - changes in weather, in course style, swing changes, etc. - all demand adaptability on the part of the player.  Changing your method of getting around the course is just another form of adaptation.

without the cart, I wouldn't be able to play anymore, so I'm thankful for them.

Golf Carts are for when I want to play a quick game. I prefer just walking, lets me enjoy it more, get absorbed in the surroundings, and just have more fun.

In Denmark where i am from it is only elderly or handicapped persons who in most clubs are allowed to ride.

The summer is short and therefor the grass is more delicate, therefor no carts for the rest of us.

But i really like walking, so no problem. Now we are just waiting for spring and the season to begin.

Best regards

I am further committing to walking. Tried these Vibram 5 finger TrekSport shoes on at REI. Loved them. Ordered a pair and will try them out for golf. A close as I can get to golfing barefoot without the pain of stepping onto something nasty. Balance and feeling a weight shift has always been an important part of my game.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
