OK, we know the Masters thinks certain words don't have a sufficient amount of Southern gentility and ban them from telecasts.

It's "patrons", not "gallery".

And it's "second cut", not "rough".

But, seriously.  "Patron observation platform" for "grandstand"?  (Should we abbreviate it POP?)  Did anyone else hear that one?  That doesn't even sound Southern.  More like something a politically correct professor in the Ivy League would dream up.

It's the bleacher seats, guys.  Really, it is.

That all adds to the mystique.  It also shows what a bunch of control freaks the members/organizers are.

I love Gary McCord, and I thought that was the funniest line ever. I can't believe they banned him for saying that.

These old white guys that run Augusta National are really stuffy old farts.

I wonder if they said anything to Tiger today, after he kicked his club on 16th tee box.

Did Tiger kick his club on the hole initiation zone or on the closely mown greenway approach facility?

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

It's almost surprising the announcers aren't required to call him "Eldrick". But then I remembered "Hootie". So I guess not.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who notices this crap. These chairmen are the most pretentious, fratty, snobby, racist, and sexist bunch of douchebags in the world.

In 2007 I got put on "time out" for jogging down the side of 15 to try to get a glimpse of Mickelson's approach shot. I didn't know better.

The fact that they hate to allow the viewers to see the "first nine" by going on air at 3pm proves they are selfish *******s who only care about themselves.

It's their playground, they get to decide who plays in the sandtrap.  Not  my type of people, but given their wealth I'd say they are out of touch with how the average golf fan thinks.  Or they just don't care.

First nine? I didn't even know they had 18 holes on this course. I always assumed they started at Amen Corner, played those three holes twice and then 16, 17, 18. :-\

Don't let it get to you.  I think it is amusing listening to Feherty trying not to be himself by using the "Augusta" nomenclature.  It is a fair trade for us not to have to listen to the Michelob Ultra and Cialis ads every 5 minutes!  Also, I think they put Valium in the beer for the "Patrons".  They are way too relaxed.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing yesterday, after Phil's flop shot on 15. You know that Feherty was stuffing a towel in his mouth to keep from saying Phil needed a wheelbarrow to carry his balls around.

Augusta National membership list - it's very old - 2002:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/golf/masters/2002-09-27-augusta-list.htm

But as an indicator, 300 members, youngest - 39 years old.

One 39 year old, two 40 years old, the rest mostly 60s, 70s, 80s.

While they get some things right, it's a time warp back 50 years.

Golf fans are typically the least attractive of all "patrons" shown at televised sporting events, but does The Masters scour the countryside for the ugliest people? Is it to prevent home viewers from taking their gaze off the flowers?

Personally, I like the time warp, it reminds me of when I was a kid and things were much more simple(for me that is).  No wife or kids or mortgage payment or boring job, growing up in the 50's and 60's was a lot different than it is today.  I enjoy the fact that the Masters has a very specific set of rules, and there is no deviation, either you follow the rules or you are not included.  I can totally appreciate how the Master is ran, kind of like the house I grew up in and the house my kids grew up in.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
