No, he won't. I'd like to see him win one, but until he can make one of his classic sunday "just barely too far back to actually win, but still close enough to care about scoring well" runs when he actually has a chance, I don't think he'll win.

At tour level the mental component often separates the men from the boys, especially in majors. Sergio, Westwood, and maybe Hunter Mahan are all guys with superior physical talent whose nerves, especially when putting, seem to fail them. I don't think any of these three will ever win a major.

I said four or five years ago that he'd never win one. I haven't changed my mind.

IMO, he wont ever win one.  He doesnt have the mental game to get it done.

Better question: If he does win one, will he become even more of an a**hole?

I Voted for 1 and only 1, but am biased as my last pet (a fish I had about 10 years ago) was named after Sergio.

He is not the best putter out there, which may ultimately hold him back, but he still has managed to win about 20 Tournys including a Players Championship.  His record in majors is good- with 3 seconds and a bunch of top 10s.

He is my least favorite golfer, that aside I too have said for years he would never win a major.  I see nothing in his game or attitude that would make me think otherwise.

I think I'm probably the exception here but I struggle to see why a major is different from any other tournament with a strong field.

There are so many guys on the PGA tour who are capable of getting hot and winning - Sergio included.  I would estimate the chance of Sergio winning anything again at around 25% but, if he did win, I don't see why it couldn't be at a major.  Of course there are only 4 majors so that alone makes his chance of winning one lower.

Even the pros feel the pressure of a major and perform "differently".  Think of it this way.  Do you play the same when you play a casual round versus a tournament?  Granted, pros are under pressure every time they enter a tournament.  But the hype and the setup of a major is significantly different, and the pros feel that added pressure.  And the set up is such that any small mistake is further magnified.  That is why it is so much harder to win a major than other tournaments.

As for Sergio, with his renewed interest in golf, I voted that he will win a major within the next five years and will go on to win other major titles.  At least I am hoping that he does.

Because majors are exactly that, the most important and career changing tournaments on tour. That's a lot of pressure and many players cannot handle this.

He won't win one. Not cuz I say so, but because HE says so - http://espn.go.com/golf/masters12/story/_/id/7788887/2012-masters-sergio-garcia-says-not-good-enough-win-major If you don't think you can win, you won't.

I was thinking the same thing as I read the thread title. I still can't believe he feels that way. :shakes head in disbelief:

WOW. Someone needs to call Bob Rotella ASAP! Maybe a little kick in pants from Tony Robbins wouldn't hurt either.

I've been saying no Major, and nothing has changed my mind....I think that Sergio is moving up the rankings of best player to have never won a major. Mrs. Doubtfire (Monty) clearly was the titleholder of his era, and I think that the torch has past to El Nino (fka the wagglemaster)

Players play, tough players win!
