I was actually going to post a rebuttal in response to "You don't know what a driving range is for" but I see this thread has taken a turn to the funnies. Please, continue...

Also, you have to actually try and spell that poorly. Unless you really are just uneducated and fell asleep after second grade, for the rest of your educational background. It's one thing to have a grammatical error here and there, but you are on a whole other level.

It has to be laziness. Isn't the little ABC check button there for a reason. Use it, correct the grammar, and learn from it at the very least.

Also, from a high handicapper to a high handicapper, yes the driving range is an important part of my practice. I never try to "fix" my swing issues on the course. Just as important, I use the chipping area and putting greens just as much as I use the stalls to practice my swing, so it's not just whacking at balls all day. you can work on all different aspects of your game Patrick...

Spell check for laph only comes up with: lap; caph; lapp; lash and lath

What is caph??  Maybe Venom knows.

You know what, he reminds me of that kid in high school that lashed out at everyone:

"Good morning Kenny."

"F*** you! I hate you!"

"Gee Kenny, do you ever wonder why people don't like you?"

"I hope you die!"

And then 20 years later you hear in the news that they found chopped up bodies in Kenny's freezer..

I wouldn't bet on that.    As I quoted on a different thread months ago, 2.275% of the general population have an IQ of less than 70 according to Wechsler IQ statistics, and per standard psychiatric definition an IQ of 50-69 is defined as a moron, 20-49 is defined as an imbecile, and below 20 is defined as an idiot (clinical definitions, not just figures of speech).      I just looked at the number of people viewing TST right now and it was about 280 total viewers, so from a statistical perspective there are about 6-7 morons, idiots, and imbeciles on Sand Trap right at this moment.      And Spider isn't even on line right now!

lo ...frikkin'...l

But, Clambake Sir, you make on assumption which can be challenged, vis. that the TST sub-population is an accurate reflection of the general population.  If not, a correction must be made.

That is an assumption that can and should be rigorously addressed ..... but past experience tells me that this post will get deleted if I go into more statistical detail

The Big Question is: does the distribution of TST posters by IQ fall, in general, to the right or to the left of the IQ distribution of the total population?  Please disregard concerns about kurtosis or skewness, which will for sure get you censored .....

..extracts tongue from cheek..

Chas, I'll always defer to your superior knowledge of statistical analysis, particularly when you bring up terms like kurtosis (can't a person see a doctor and get shots for that?).    As to your question about which way the TST population skews, I'm not sure.    Normally I'd say we skew towards the more intelligent side of the scale, but from some of the recent posters here like Spider (and Patrick and a few others) I'm not so sure!

I have a feeling that the IQ distribution of TSTers may be Gaussian bimodal, with a big dip right where the general population mean is.

So, basically, you have a bunch of geniuses trying to talk with a bunch of morons.

IDK if we are still answering the op's question but I would say go to the range for basics and shaping the swing but I feel the mats give you false confidence and dont react the same as grass and I try to stay away unless working on something new. Other than that I will play a cheap round and just say only irons today or leaving the driver in the bag. Or make rules like if Im off the green by an inch i will practice my chipping and no putter. now about the op i have to say that I know people who aren't dumb that will talk like this and I think it's trying to portray some image like slang with spelling and maybe he is just so used to it thats how he really does type and that doesn't make him dumb but i will agree that when your only form of communication is typing it gives off a REALLY bad impression.

Or a bunch of geniuses that argue because they think they are smarter than the other geniuses.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
