And I just saw him play that hole beautifully yesterday.  Making an easy birdie (middle fairway, spinning the approach back to 2 feet, tap in)

No water at all.  Dog leg right, second shot is up the hill to a semi blind very angular green.

Playing at about 450 for the Memorial.

Actually, his hips contribute to getting the club under/inside.

That's not the 18th at Muirfield Village.

He hit it in the fairway bunker on 18, then got out of position (62'4" on the live shot by shot thing), probably putted it off the green, chipped back on, and two-putted from there.

It's a bit of a stupid green in that regard. Very, very tilted.

This one's not very realistic but it's more accurate than whatever 18th hole k-troop posted:

Just noticed that #1 in the world also doubled 18.  The PGATour.com hole description lists it as an inviting downhill driving hole with an ample fairway.

Hmmpf.  The pic I posted is the 18th at the Country Club at Muirfield Village, Dublin OH.  I guess it's a copycat.

That picture above is not the 18th hole.  This is an excerpt from the Memorials website.

"An inviting downhill drive to an ample fairway. But bunkers threaten at the corner of the dogleg to the right, and a long drive hit too far left can find the creek threading the tree line or can be blocked by a cluster of black walnuts short of the green. The approach is uphill across a swale to a large two-tiered and heavily contoured green bunkered front left, front right, left and rear right. A spectacular finishing hole capable of accommodating more than 20,000"

Here is a pic from the fairway looking towards the tee box.  There is a small creek that is to the right of the picture which really shoudn't come into play.

That's a poor description of the hole.

The drive is downhill to one of the narrower fairways (none of these are "narrow" - it's a relative term) on the golf course, and the second shot is uphill quite a bit.

Well, the diagram I posted is the diagram of the 18th hole from the website of The Country Club at Muirfield Village, a Jack Nicklaus designed course in Dublin OH.  I'm assuming that there aren't two such courses.  I guess they have the nines reversed for the tourney?

Rory just eagled 5 to get back to even par. I still don't think he's the next Tiger, but he might be the next Phil.

I'm "watching" his round on the shot tracker thing, and I swear to $DEITY, if any one of half of us were putting for him today, he'd be threatening the course record.

Maybe he's leaving himself really tricky putts, from above the holes or something, but he's making nothing and averaging something like 14 feet from the hole. The longest putt he made so far might be the nine footer to save par, but outside of some tap-ins for birdies, he's making nothing, if the shot tracker thing is telling the truth (it usually does).

14'11" for birdie on #6, tap-in par.

According to pgatour.com, McIlroy's quadrouple bogey is his higest score ever (in relation to par) on the PGA Tour.

From the same bunker, Woods got up and down for par. But his lie was a little bit better as far as I could tell.

You can watch a few of their holes on pgatour.com

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
