Was wondering how others go out to play. Collar up or down. How about buttoning up like Bubba does, do you?

That is a very self conscious affectation that I am yet to see. Thankfully.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Don't know bout Bubba but i never play without collar up, long sleeves down and big hat all round.  As a matter of personal interest i am working on making mini gloves which cover only the back of my hand, not the gripping part. Will be using very light weight sun blocking fabric, maybe with a bit of velcro.

I unbutton the top button. Sometimes the next one as well if I'm wearing a t-shirt underneath and the button is in "no-mans land."

If you put the collar up, I might just strike you with my 4 iron. I button it all the way up. If you got clothes that fit, it won't be any discomfort, and it looks a lot better. Unbuttoning the top one is what I connect with jeans and a shirt for someone out on town.

A popped collar makes sense if it's for additional SPF protection, but buttoning a shirt all the way up is just missing the string tie for the Ryan Moore look. Some shirts actually fit better buttoned all the way up - I make sure not to buy those.

Buttoning a shirt all the way up was the standard up until the late 1960s around here (based on photos) then had a brief appearance in the mid 1980s.

Plus Tiger and Phil intermittently buttoned all the way throughout the mid-2000s.

Collar down and top button unbuttoned. Pretty sure that's the norm on the public courses I play.

I will pop my collar on a particularly hot and sunny day. I'm a redhead, and I cant be too safe when it comes to sunburns. Other than that, collar down, always unbuttoned.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Ah Zeph, I see you're from Norway. I lived in England for a bit and my impression is that it's far more common in Europe to button polo shirts all the way up.

I have almost always buttoned all the way up. When it is hot out I'll let the top one lose. It is a comfort thing for me. I know it does not look great.

TaylorMade Burner 3 hybrid

I've always played with my collar down with the top button open and a golf hat.  Golf shirts buttoned to the top just look wrong to me, and I never liked the Phil collars of the 90's.  I know that I shouldn't, but I do like to have a little sun tan, and big hats, elevated collars, and long sleeves just don't work for me.  Especially since the heat index is about 106 degrees today.

Possibly the ugliest hat I've seen this year. And that includes the signed bright yellow St. Louis Blues one my daughter got at a silent auction. She insists I wear it on the course but I tell her it's too special because it's signed, which is actually partially right.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
