Push Cart Recommendations

I'm looking into getting a push cart so that I can start walking on a more regular basis.  I like walking the course, but my right foot can't take the extra weight from the bag for 4 hours.  I had turf toe when I was younger that I didn't let heal, and I get some hardcore arthritis in my right big toe when I walk 18.

So with that said, what is everyone's feelings on push carts?  Is spending $200 on a Clicgear 3.0 worth it versus spending 65 on something serviceable?  I imagine the Clicgear or something comparable is going to stand up to a lot more rounds that the cheaper cart.

Also, what are everyone's recommendations for carts?  What are good features to look for in one that make it more convenient/useful (like easy wheel locking, etc.)?

I've owned a few different carts over the years. One of things to take note of: moving parts break more easily. All the collapsing, multi-fold turning wheel, space saving advantages that are promoted on these things are just more parts that want to break. The best cart I've ever had was one of the old style pull carts that were pretty much just bent tubing with some wheels on it. I had to take the handle off and remove the wheels to get in the trunk of my car, but they were all held on with cotter pins like the one below. I still own and use this cart today. Best part is, I got it for free... a course in Wichita was getting rid of them and going to electric carts only and gave me one.

I've had a clicgear for over 4 years, probably close to 500 rounds.  I've just about worn out the tire treads, but it still works great.

I have a clicgear 2.0 and walked at least 100 rounds with no problems.  I like it because of the size when folded, I can put 2 carts and 2 bags of clubs in my trunk.  The carts with wheels that have air probably push a little more easily, but you have to be sure to have an air pump with you if they go flat.  I prefer the wheels like the clicgear.

I've used a Bagboy Quad for 80+ rounds this year. It has a small footprint when folded, and easy to push.

I have and like the clicgear 3.0 since last year. easy to fold and carry, easy to unfold and use. rolls freely and with little to no effort.

I bought the CaddyTek at the beginning of this year. I use it 2-3 times a week. Very good push cart for the money! I highly recommend it. Here is the link to one on tgw.com. The reviews are 4.5 out of 5 stars. Plus its $100 cheaper than the Cliqgear.

I like my clicgear --- soild construction, good design.

My brother got a cheap-o cart.  Got frustrated, kicked it, and a little piece broke.  Game continued to go south, and he kicked the thing to pieces on the 17th hole.  Left the bits in a pile at the 18th tee box.

I don't think I could kick my clicgear into such distinct pieces like that....

I got the cheapy version from rockbottomgolf golf. It has a cupholder, score card holder, tee holes etc. all the things I was looking for and I paid something like $89 shipped. This was an upgrade from an acuity 2 wheel pull cart I bought 4 years ago. well worth the money IMO.

I too have a clicgear push cart. It works great. I've only used it 20-25 times. I usually carry, except for one very, very hilly course I sometimes play. And now we'll be using my dads new to him golf cart.

I have a Cliqgear 2.0 and it is a great cart. Light, folds up easily and is built really solidly. Probably have 100 rounds or so on mine, and it's still going strong. Expect to have it for many years to come.

I use a bagboy pull cart.  I prefer it over push carts (3-4 wheels) because it's a lot cheaper, lighter, and has fewer parts to break.  I play a lot of hilly courses and there's no need to set a break...because there isn't one.  No need for it.  My bag holds what I need.  The cart just needs to hold my bag.

I have the Sun Mountain micro cart.  It's a solid cart and I got a really good deal on it, otherwise I think I would have went with the Sun Mountain Speed V line.

There are a few quality options (BagBoy, Clicgear, Sun Mountain) available to choose from, so it may just come down to your personal preference (and what type of deal you can get).

I would suggest the Sun Mountain V1 cart, I got one as birthday gift a few months back, and love it.  Great value and is sturdy as ever. It's also handy and folds up and will fit in almost any car trunk.

+1 for the micro cart. I have no real complaints about it. FYI turf toe does not heal generally. The ligaments tear and it becomes hallicus valgus. I did the same thing and need surgery to repair it. I just can't take a month off work. Amazing how much it effects you, bye bye baseball after that.

I own the Acuity 2 wheel pull cart. It costs me $10 bucks and I now know why. It sucks worse than a four-putt after putting for birdie. My bag keeps spinning around on it until the handle is facing down.

I have a CaddyTec EZ Fold 3 Wheel ordered from Amazon, due to arrive next week.  With a ton of excellent reviews and a price tag $100 less than Clic Gear, I had to go with it.  I'll be back with my review after I get to use it a couple of times.

I received it on Thursday, just 2 days after I ordered it on Amazon.  Assembly was a snap, just snap two wheels onto the struts, slip the drink holder on its bracket and snap the umbrella holder into it's storage bracket on the wheel strut.  It opens easily and locks securely - rotate the front wheel 180 degrees and it's ready to go.  It holds my large Calina cart bag effortlessly, and rolls as easily as any cart I've tried.  Its solidly built, much more so than the Sun Mountain Speed Cart that I used to have.  It tracks straight right out of the box, but if it ever needs adjustment that's easy too.

Took it for a test drive on Friday, 9 holes.  No surprises.  It's a great trolley, pushes with little effort on hard surfaces.  Pushing on grass takes a little more work and the heavier the grass or the softer the turf, the more effort is required.  This is pretty much the same with all such carts.  If I had a somewhat lighter bag, it would not make as much difference on soft grass.  Hills were no problem.  The foot operated brake works easily, and isn't at all awkward to use.  I didn't use it much, since I usually just park crossways to the slope.

All in all, for $100 less than the ClickGear, I think I definitely got the best of the two.  I've read reviews that dropped this cart a notch because it doesn't have as many available accessories, but I can't think of anything more that I'd want.  The only additional thing I've seen for ClikGear is a seat, and I don't really have any use for that - I'd rather just stand than perch on that little pedestal.

It felt good to walk again after at least 6 years of nothing but riding.  I won't walk 18 holes any time soon, if ever, (knee and foot problems mean that to walk at all, I have to wear my Merrell hiking shoes rather than any golf shoes) but being able to walk this little 9 holer out here in the prairie is great.  I'll be doing this at least 2 mornings a week this summer.  Maybe get in a little better shape and lose a little weight too.
