Michelle Wie is great for the game. She is widely loved, and deservedly so. Will she ever win like girls or women from other countries that drop out of school to practice 12 hours a day- probably not- and thank god for it. When did being a well educated, gorgeous, talented, athletic winner become synonymous with under-achiever? The golf channel needs to bill every new player as the next Tiger or the next Annika, just to stay in business- but win lose or draw watching Michelle duke it out with the other greats of the L.P.G.A. is a thing of beauty and a beautiful thing to watch for any lover of the game.

I have nothing against her, and I haven't said anything terrible about her in this thread.  I just gave my opinion on her as a professional and how successful I think she'll be, or won't be.  I'd love to see her do well, because I think she's fun to watch.  I just don't see her winning tons of tournaments.

You and I disagree on the term "gorgeous" also.

She's played 9 tournaments this year and has 6 top 10's.  Her 3 non top-10's are a 12th, a 13th, and a 16th.

Her last four tournaments are a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 9th.

I might be inclined to argue that she already has returned to her previous form.  She's having a great year, and it's still early.

Do you think this is just a blip in her career, or is she burned out at 22?

Nope. I think she's got a bit more in the tank…

What a great win for Michelle Wie! I was very impressed with her composure. She was very analytical and measured in her decision making (despite the errors on 16). She has great control of her approach shots. Tough course, challenge from Stacy Lewis, double bogey on 16, none of this got to her. Hope she keeps it up.

Someone pointed something out to me but I didn't notice - not one "mashed potatoes" or whatever was screamed after shots off the tee. Were there any?

I heard "BABA BOOEY" but that may have been on the Travelers. I was switching back and forth.

Exactly, a lot of people really second guessed her decision to go to Stanford and not pursue her career in golf, guess she got the last laugh.

I don't think she ever had this as a "previous form". This is better. She may look like a contortionist doing it, but she's actually learned to putt well.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
