This is breaking news?

Tiger decides when it is time to be friendly, and is friendly in millions of dollars of way with his charitable foundation. Personally, if he needs private time, that is before the round.

Question: Did you try to guilt Tiger into saying something like: I doubt if Tiger wants to say "Hi" before his round. It's okay, Dear. Don't cry.

Did you say it loud enough for him to hear? Guess I would have tried to guilt him into a smile or a thank you. I'm a Dad, I do what I can do.

Poor form on your part to feel like this was worth talking about.

Hopefully, your girl learned the lesson: people don't always respond to us the way we expect. That is life.

In the code of conduct section of the handout to fans at the open it said no autographs at all. In reality this was not abided by so well by players or fans but I think practice rounds would be the more appropriate time to bend the rules some. We went on wednesday and my daughter was able to get about 20 or so and the only player who wasn't very cooperative to autographs was Sergio Garcia, sure he did some but it was very little like he had a pre determined amount and a lot of the little kids were not able to get his autograph because grown men would push their way up to the front, I was needless to say a little disgusted.

Why do people want stuff autographed? I get free logo stuff once in awhile. When it's been signed (which it always is) I stick it in a closet somewhere rather than wear it  - yay.

I'm the same. Not really into souvenirs all that much. I have a hat signed by Jim Furyk at the President's Cup and it's sitting in the closet collecting dust.

I can understand why some celebs don't want to give autographs, especially Tiger. At the President's Cup in 2009, AK was signing autographs along the ropes on the way to the clubhouse. One side who he wasn't signing were heckling him. One guy said "AK, I know you can turn around and sign this" and other's said stuff similar to that. AK signed a couple more, closed his Sharpie and walked away and I don't blame him. Why would I want to give something to someone who's being a douche? Tiger may not have acknowledged you, but as any Tiger fan through the years, I'm not surprised.

I can see why kids would but for adults it can only be monetary value.

Not true. There is no age where a souvenir is not wanted.

I have a hockey stick that was used in the playoffs, and signed by sergei federov, it decorates the wall of my home office. I have 4 bruins jerseys, one signed by Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Andy Moog, and Tim Thomas.. The Orr Jersey is hung in a shadow box in my office,  Bourque's is in my office at work, and the other two are in our 'rec room'. My wife has tons of baseball memorabilia. None of it is there for its value. It will NEVER be sold (and it is all authenticated). My Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky rookie cards are signed and worth a mint, but again, they will never be sold. So yes, there is a very real reason that adults have signed gear.

The only things I have from golfers though, is a glove signed by Mike Wier. Its also in my office at home.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

I love the Red Wings and have a jersey signed by every member of the 2008 Stanley Cup Championship team.  I have virtually no use for it but will never part with it (or the zillion other signed items I have) for fear of offending anyone in the family. I have a nicely framed autographed photo of Tom Watson and I like it, but it was given to me by an ex so it's tainted. Meh.

That's a bit harsh. He is arguably the best in the game. And every ones "feelings" on the situation will be different. He wanted Tiger's autograph so he built himself up and assumed Tiger would just do what he wished. Tiger was probably just focused on the day and meant nothing buy his actions. Remember your only hearing one side of the story.

Lol. I was being sarcastic :-\

While I'm not a Tiger fan one bit, I don't think he owes fans anything.  Sure, a wave would be nice, but he ignored you.  So what?  There is a time and place for autographs, but before a round isn't the time.

In my bag:
Driver - Diablo Octane 10.5*
Fairway Wood - Diablo Octane 15*
Hybrid -  Edge 21*
Irons - X20's 4I - 9I
Wedges - X20's PW/SW
Putter - White Ice 1
Ball - Warbird

If no one gave a shit about watching golf, he's just another schmo trying to make ends meet like the rest of us.

Tiger makes money whether the fans are there for him or Phil.  If you want to really reduce it, people watch golf because because Tiger is a great golfer and they want to witness his greatness on the course, not because he's a great humanitarian.  If Tiger never won a tournament what are the chances the OP would have even bothered to create the thread?

I think you missed my point which was that Tiger could be well served to be grateful that people even care about golf in the first place.  If no one cared about golf (i.e. if it were tiddlywinks or something like that), there wouldn't be any money to play for, or endorsements either.  Off the course, he can have sex with llamas for all I care.  I am stricly talking about it being good to remember that if no one cared to watch, he wouldn't be getting paid. He would not make money if there were no fans.

No one has a claim to the time or attention of anyone else just because they paid an attendance fee.  If you don't like the prices, don't go.  If you aren't going to follow the rules you should be caught - and probably humiliated into the bargain.  The fans' money gives them the right to watch the performance.  To expect anything more is, frankly, kind of creepy.

And when anyone says "It is not the money, it is the principle"  you can be darned sure that it is really the money.

I am not whining about it I am merely expressing my opinion, I wasn't trying to sneak food in, I was very open about it.

I can assure you that money is not an issue for me, my household income is well into six figures!

Wow are you serious?  You have to defend your income on an internet forum.  Please go away.

You most certainly did whine and continue to whine.

And bragging about your household income (bad form, BTW) has nothing to do with it.  Some of the richest people are some of the cheapest.  People are criticizing Tiger about that all the time and I'm guessing his household income just might be larger than yours.

Those prices may be high, but if you think they are outrageously high for a major sporting event then you need to get out more.  Or not.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Rich - in name only

I wasn't trying to brag about my income, I was just trying to make the point to Wallstreet that it is more about the principle than the money.

    • Have a 19° (moved to 20.5°) Titleist 915H. I just love the club. Beautiful feel off the sweetspot, high launch, soft landing. Versatile. In the future, with less overall speed I will replace my 4 and 5 irons with another hybrid, something around 26°.
    • Broke the head of a Stealth Plus on a warm up. TaylorMade send me a new head but I decided to upgrade it to the new IQ10 LS and pay the difference. While I was waiting for the 8° head to arrive at the store I messed around with all the multi brand putts they had available. I instantly liked a black TaylorMade Spider, not the new one but very similar. The weight felt perfect. Big line in the middle for easy alignment. I was playing and old Zebra so the change in technology and feel was huge. Fast review of both clubs.. Driver QI10 LS. I always hit to ball up in the sky. I was playing the stealth at 7° with a 60g X low flight shaft and I was still hitting it pretty high. With the QI10 playing it at 6° now is almost hard for me to hit it high, with the same shaft the ball comes out lower and with less spin. so I'm really happy with the change. Putter Spider. I love it. It took me an afternoon to figure out how to grip it (it comes with a superStroke grip) but after that it all came into place. More stable on short putts and a good weight to swing smoothly on long putts and with added forgiveness over my old zebra.
    • I have a 2h but we don’t get along anymore. It’s a bit of an abusive relationship - she gives me just enough hope once in a while that things are going to be better and then it’s back to the same old shit. I went to a PING fitting recently with the intention to replace the hybrid with a 5w or something, thinking maybe I’ll be better with a fairway wood than a hybrid. But it turns out the best club I hit that fits in that slot in the bag is another hybrid so I ordered it.
    • Day 547, May 2, 2024 18 holes with @DrizZzY using my TruStick®. Hit a LOT of really good shots today.
    • Not the last thing I bought or bought anything at all but Sun Day Red stuff seems a bit overpriced for it essentially being rebranded Nike apparel. I'm hearing the resale prices are wild though. Either way, I highly doubt I will indulge as I'm not much of a brand guy or a collector. But to keep up my super nice guy image have never turned down a gift though 😇 Tiger doesn't seem to sell stuff like MJ or Kanye did.
