Heat question - leaving clubs in the trunk - probably not a good thing, huh?

I just realized I've been neglecting my clubs, too lazy to lug them out of the car. I live in a big city and don't like carrying my clubs in the public, but I think it's not so good to leave the clubs in the car because of the heat. Maybe I should start bringing them into my apartment where it's reasonable cooler?

I wouldn't worry about the heat damaging the clubs.   It's a non-issue............

I've heard extreme heat can warp graphite shafts and can weaken the integrity of the glue? Incorrect?

Nope......

I don't recommend baking them in an oven at 450degrees, but trunk heat will do them no harm

It's 100 degrees outside, if the car is not in a garage, they're going inside.

It's "not an issue" until the head of your nine-iron flies off and sinks to the bottom of a pond.  I stopped leaving my clubs in the trunk after that.

Hmmm....ok. I'll remember to take them out of the commercial grade convection oven I usually store them in!!!

On the off chance somebody in the United States leaves them in the car, and it happens to be 100 degrees outside, and it happens to get up to 120-130 inside the car with no air movement, would this have an impact on the integrity of graphite shafts or the glue? Seems like an unreasonable question I know....

You should place the blame where it is due.....on shoddy workmanship.  it happens.....

The trunk had nothing to do with the head coming loose.

LMFAO!!

I asked my brother about this and he said he ALWAYS keeps them in the back of his car and hes been playing with same clubs for many years. I am only stating him as a source as I always keep mine in my car but I have only been golfing for about a year and I drive a dodge magnum so its not so much as an oven as an oven with windows and its my whole car so the heat isn't so centered in the trunk. I dont think it has any effect on your clubs. Tons of people lose club heads. Doesn't mean it was from the trunk.

You're absolutely right... y PING clubs.  I should have shot off an angry e-mail to Karsten Solheim, only I didn't have e-mail back then.

i have graphite shafts on all my clubs, and they've been baking in the trunk for nearly 2 years now, with no issues.   in fact, they seem to be working better (or maybe its all the range time i've been having lately.. 60/25/15, FTW!)

LOL.....this isn't the first time I heard of ping clubheads flying loose.  I've personally seen it happen twice and I don't even play ping!  It happened to my dad and a friend while I was playing with them.......(both were playing the Eye 2's back in the day)

Nothing against ping, but it only takes one flunky in the assembly plant responsible for the glue gun to screw up 1 club in 2,000 and it'll seem like ping heads are flying all over the place

What makes you think that leaving your clubs in the trunk had anything to do with the head flying off?

Here is my .02..
My five year old son has a horrible habit of leaving his Jr clubs outside. The worst thing that has happened is, other than some sun fading, his grips tend to disintegrate after just a couple of months.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"
