You completely missed the point.... You're playing golf with your boss on FRIDAY......by losing, you virtually guarantee a repeat invite. That's money we'll spent! ;-)

I shot an 89.  Started  with 2 up and down pars and then made a 39 footer for bogey on number three for my first of 11 straight bogeys,  I then made back to back doubles only to make 2 more pars and another double coming in.

Today, I only hit one green but shot an 80.  I only had 23 putts and chipped the ball very close all day.  I only made one really long putt from 24 feet.  I just am not striking the ball well at the moment although I did hit 9 of 14 fariways.

Granted, we have an index difference but I have completely destroyed your personal worst today. I even went back out this afternoon and tried another 9 just to see if it was a fluke......

Wasn't.

I typically shoot 86-88 on my home course thanks to a couple of holes that are really tight with water and get into my head. We also have 18 (yes, ALL of them) elevated greens that demand accuracy or they are rolling off. It's a fairly tough course for a noob like me.

This morning, I had my best day of driving since I picked up a club, we have 12 fairways, I hit 10 of them and one that was off was in the first cut. The other was worth 2 strokes even though we watched it land just left of the fairway, bounce once and sit down we couldn't find it in the rough and there were no hazards at all on this hole, it just vanished so I hit another. Granted none were long (I'm an average 250yd driver but today I was only seeing about 220 but almost perfect placement).

Putting, I had 15 2 putts, 1 3 putt, and 2 1 putts for 35 putts (not too bad for a guy that USED to be a 19.9).

My score however, 125!!!!!!! I couldn't get a 3w off the fairway to save my life, long irons were absolutely useless and just hitting 'em fat, short irons were all going longer than I ever remember them going. On the 4th hole there is water behind the green, it's 144 yards to the pin, 7i straight over the green and rolls down into the water. I tee up with an 8i and hit it off the toe going OOB, finally cuss a little hit a PW from the tee, LW to the green and two put for an 8 on a par 3. 24 strokes I took for OOB/Water alone from hitting off the toe. Honestly if I hadn't been playing with a buddy (who was having a magical iron game today) I would have packed it in and gone to the bar at 10am on a Sunday morning if I could have found one open and I haven't drank alcohol in 4+ years.

I have no idea what happened but my first round picking up a club wasn't this bad.

I hope you realize that I am not saying that an 89 is my personal worse score because I have shot much worse than that as I was learning to play.  I am just saying that it has been years (10 or 15 maybe) since I have missed every green in a round of golf and then I almost did it again today.  We all have bad days but I have astounded myself with the total lack of being able to hit a green the past couple of days.

I understand what you mean but I was just crying out loud because I was close to 40 strokes off my average score at the moment. I was going to start my own thread to grip about my sudden inability to hit a ball straight or long but since you had one going I figured I would just gripe here to keep from cluttering up the forum with our shared misery hahaha.

can top that.  Shot 89 85 in a tourney this weekend and haven't shot anything in the 80s in the last few months. Also a record 4 triples in one round.  2nd round started birdie then 4 putted on the next hole and 3 putted 2 more.  Lost 6 balls this weekend.  Funny thing is I usually would be so mad I would just quit but, for some reason it didn't really bother me to much.  Maybe the game has finally defeated me and took all the fight out.

Hence the 2.3 handicap.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Yea went up an entire point after these two rounds.  Keep the trend up I may graduate from Championship flight to Hacker flight.  Only saving grace was 85 was middle of the pack everyone shot high today with the high winds.

I don't think that's fair. My index is as legitimate as it gets, but even so, I've managed to post a net 83 and a net 84 in two separate tourament rounds this year. Those scores aren't far off from his. It's been said before, but tournament golf is a completely different animal and can make a very competent golfer look downright silly sometimes.

I think It's better to record your worst score this year than worst score overall.

My worst score this year was 115 and I had a nice day at the course. Hope my worst score next year will be a low 100

Don't know how the handicap system in US works exactly, but in the Netherlands someone who has 4.4 or less can only play for his handicap in official tournaments (may also be the club championship).

Eh it doesn't matter if he thinks its a vanity cap.  I already won 2 tournaments this year shooting under par shit happens and my mental game is the main reason for the high scores.  To me 80 is the same as 90.  I knew I was out of it so I honestly didn't really try to scramble as hard as I should so the scores relate to that.

I didn't even bother to stick around to humilate myself for what would have certainly been my worst day of the season yesterday. After arriving early enough to work through two small buckets and hitting nearly every ball perfect I had a 1st tee meltdown. Two topped shots and I hadn't made it past the red tees. I picked up the ball and headed for the car. I'd had enough.

Thursday was my worst round in a long, long time...with greens that are stimping around 12 and windy conditions, it was really a comedy of errors as I actually hit a number of good shots.

#1 two stroke penalty after my birdie putt rolls past the hole and into the flag stick that one of my playing partners had put on my through line

#6 5 putt after yanking my two foot 3rd putt 6-7 feet past

#7 Mistakenly tee off between the left tee marker and the yardage plaque/old tee marker used to show pin position...proceed to shank the re-tee in the water and make 8 on the par 3

#8 Land a downwind/uphill 80 yarder from the rough 9 paces on the green only to see it roll back off the false front and end up 40 yards from the pin.

#9-18 Make 4 straight pars then 3 bogies and still don`t break 50 the back side, finishing with a 12

It is amazing how much harder a course with contoured greens plays in gusty conditions when they are stimping 12 instead of 9 or 10.  Yesterday I went out and hit it good and shoot 39 with 2 three putts the front.  On the back, I hit every fairway, had 1 eagle putt, 4 birdie putts, 3 par putts and shot 46 missing only 1 short putt and one hole worse than bogey (quad).
