Requesting info on Disney's Magnolia course-Orlando

I'll be in Orlando next month for a meeting. A friend has made a tee time for us at Magnolia. He and the others in our foursome are  better golfers than me, they play between a 5 and 12.  As a relative newcomer to golf, I'm probably a 28 or so on a good day (no official handicap).

I'm a bit intimidated by the thought of playing this course because I understand it's long and has a lot of long carries, and I'm a short hitter. I can also be very inconsistent. I understand the greens aren't too bad, which is good because I don't putt well either.

I'd appreciate any insights about this course.

Don't worry! All the Disney courses are designed with resort guests in mind, with plenty of tee options. Play from the tees that you feel comfortable with and you'll be fine. The courses are always maintained in "Disney" condition and this time of year that means perfection. You'll have a blast, and as a benefit, you'll be able to tell everyone that you played a PGA tour course. Be sure to get a yardage book and plot your shots after the round. Pull it out when the pros play and you can relive your round as you watch them on tv and you compare what you did with how they're playing. Have fun! :-)

The Magnolia course is great. If you play the right tees, it's not the monster people make it out to be.

It's a resort course. Translation: Very playable. And in great shape. I was down in that area last week & we've had a lot of rain recently so everything's nice & lush. Don't worry about it being too much course or some kind of back-breaker. It can be tough from the back tees. Just don't play the back tees!

BTW, it was 90 degrees today & still muggy. We're waiting for the cooler weather to hit (in other words 85 degrees & muggy), so dress light.

EDIT: I just re-read your original post & you said you'll be here next month. November is awesome weather here. The rainy season is over & the heat breaks. Expect carbon-copy 82 degree sunny days.

I played there last year, and I have to agree with what everyone else has said. It's very playable.

I played the Magnolia course this past February only 3 months after picking up the game of golf. What a great experience!

My buddy and I played from the white tees which put us at around 6500 yards. Like everyone has said, the course is very playable and in great condition. You'll see tons of wildlife running around, we were clearly warned not to get too close to the water (we knew some of our shots would be way off).

I played by all the rules and counted every stroke and finished off at 118. I know that's not a good score but I was pretty proud because of the fact that I had only been playing for about 3 months. (This was back when I would play par 3's that were 170 yards long with my 3 wood).

One recommendation I do have is to keep score manually - NOT on the carts. The same day we played the Palm course and on the 16th hole our cart's GPS scoring system reset and we lost all our data. It was kind of dissapointing because the manager didn't even apologize, he just said there was nothing he could do.
