When we get snow in Philly, most of the time we can still rely on South Jersey for some winter golf. Usually about 10 degrees warmer the closer you get to the shore. We'll check out Scotland Run in Williamstown first, and if they have snow we just go closer to the shore and we eventually find a pretty good track like Twisted Dune or Seaview.

Yup, the snow/rain line is usually along the Rt 95 corridor. Scotland Run is a wicked good track, isn't it?

Ping me if you're coming to the shore, I would love to hit with some TST members.

Scotland Run is our default course, but Seaview is next. We usually have a group set up before we go, but I'll keep it in mind.

Isn't that where Baltusrol is?

When I renew my membership I will get some free passes to my course (Seaview CC) and I would be happy to get you out gratis if I'm around (I'll be on travel a lot for the next few months).

Winter greens fees down here are around $40 prime time weekends and correspondingly lower weekdays and twilight. Some courses to check out: Balamore, Shore Gate, Twisted Dunes, Blue Heron Pines. I would include Brigantine, but that course probably got washed out to sea.

PM me if you're interested.

It (Baltusrol) is a stones throw away from my Grandmother's house. I want to get down there before she passes and would love a round, preferably with you or other members of the site. I will PM you and keep you posted.

How did Ocean Acres in Manahawkin make out?  I've played there a few times when I stayed on LBI.

Played a round today (15 holes, other 3 are still damaged from Sandy).  It was a bit cold, but with UA compression Cold Gear it wasn't too bad.  The holes that were playable were in good shape.  Used a Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow ball for the first time, definitely easier to find in the leaves than white.  I was also happy with the distance and spin.  Wedge shots stopped within a foot of where they landed.

I hope to get at least one more round in this year, maybe Friday.  Looks like cold weather is coming in next week so we'll see.

Playing this Friday (after Thanksgiving) on course that was under water thanks to Sandy. I called and they are open so we'll see. They say it will be 56 degrees so it should be a good day.

Ocean Acres! I used to play there a lot. Great layout but so-so condition because it usually got more traffic than I-95 during rush hour. I actually drove by there the other day and it looked fine, with the usual host of a couple billion golfers on it.

I used to play a lot at Sand Barrens, but I've heard they have had real problems with their conditioning the last couple of years. Too bad, a really nice track.

I heard the same from a few people. I wonder what happened. Very cool course, that big huge double green is interesting..

I don't know exactly what happened, but I heard they have some kind of disease in the turf that they can't get rid of. They lost almost all their fairways and greens two years in a row, which is hard to believe considering the great conditions we had most of the last year.

That double green is awesome. One time I boned a wedge into it and the ball went all the way to the other end of the green for the other hole. I must have had a 200 foot putt.

The course is pretty crowded, I think that's partially due to the limited course options for people staying on LBI as well as the locals.  Was there at end of August and the course wasn't in great shape, but still fun to play.  Are there any other courses you're aware of close by to Ocean Acres?

We had 70*+ temps today, I couldn't get on the course with multiple attempts, too crowded. I actually have an 8:20 tee time tomorrow (thxgvng). Not sure it's going to work out. If we have frost tonight the delay will jam up the course and I have to be somewhere at 1PM. Crazy to be fighting for a tee time the day before thxgvng. Probably a good thing to rest my golf elbow problem.

I live in the Philly area, and while I play several courses during the rest of the year, I'll stick with just one for the winter. The courses around me are usually well maintained, however the numerous trees lining the holes make finding golf balls difficult amongst the leaves. My home course however, has roughly 3 trees that come into play, so leaves aren't ever a problem.

Went to play my course on this balmy sunny day of 49 or better degrees and found it closed for the season. So I am traveling Friday to play.... :(

Yup, pretty much the only course in that area, although about 15mi south is Sea Oaks in Tuckerton. Very nice course, pretty long, good condition, albeit a little 'tricked out' due to a lot of fairway mounding.

Looks like Mother Nature is giving us an early holiday gift Tuesday here on Long Island, so I get to unpack my cleaned irons and shoes and squeeze in probably my last round of 2012.

Sounds like a fun course, might have to check it out next summer.  Thanks.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
