Keep the ball on the tee for awhile. With the ball on the ground you can continue to hit down quite a bit with a steep shaft. The point of the tee is to help stop this move:

It's subtle, but the BoC (butt of club) gets too far out (just a little), and the shaft stands up a little bit.

The (slight) overswing doesn't help this, of course.

@iacas thank you very much! I will make sure I do the alignment stick and tee drill a bunch when I get back. I am guessing this problem is also exaggerated a bit with my trying to swing down left...

Yeah, a bit. They won't be spinny cuts, more of a push-cut. Still want the club tracing a good sweetspot path.

Ball on a tee is easier when you're sweeping it a bit more with the angles drawn on the right.

Club face I assume is also way too shut going back?

Yeah. You said that part, so I didn't repeat it. :D But yeah, a bit more toe up at 2.

Great, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I was seeing that correctly. With working on the two part backswing drill I should be able to improve the face and get more toe up. Really starting to like the way the set-up and posture feels.

I just re-upped for another month of evolvr.  This will probably be my last month for the year, until next. I probably won't even do any more uploads for the rest of the year and will just keep working on the drills to correct my back swing issues.  I will have a "come to jebus"  talk with myself here in a few weeks with some stats and thoughts on what I will shoot for next year and what I may be able to look forward to.  I was hoping this year would move forward a bit, instead I moved backwards(as far as scores go anyway). I learned a great piece late last summer that really helped me clean up my contact.  The problem is, early this year, I exaggerated some other things as usual and developed a very shut face with the hands/club too deep at A4.  Unfortunately with the end of the season just around the corner I won't see any lasting results of this new work.  I hate Wisconsin.  Next year is the fifth of the 5 years I had promised myself I would give 100% to trying to improve.  It was pretty obvious to me last year, but especially this year that I won't be able to even get close to my goal of around a 1.  I will continue to give 100% next year and then I am not sure where I will go from there.  Maybe I will just play and have fun.  Maybe I will devote more time to Archery, after switching to left handed(left eye dominant) my shooting seems to be improving much faster than my golf game.  :-D

I'll page @mvmac too but I don't really see any reason you couldn't get to a 1 next year.

It's a process, and yes, you overdid some things, and so on, but that doesn't mean things won't "click" suddenly at some point.

I also think you may want to explore the local instruction available. Some students do well online, others use it to supplement in-person instruction… You may want to do more of the latter.  BTW, if Chicago is pretty close to you, you and @cedrictheo could always get together now and then and film and talk golf and send some video. Perhaps even some Skype calls if you don't really want to trust any of the local instructors.

Always a good idea to play and have fun :)

I am also left eye dominate, but I'm not really sure that I could pull 70lb bow left handed (current setting) / or aim for anything as a matter of fact!

Would it really make that big of a difference w/aiming in your opinion?

If I see some progress next year I will keep at it for sure.  I know my swing is better overall this year than it was last, I just developed a really bad habit on my own accord.  I think I could have got to a 1 in five years under the right circumstances, just don't think I am in the right place for that with enough time to devote to it.   I think I could still get there but maybe it is ten years, who knows.

With online lessons I tend to over do things too much, I know.  When I have had the luxury of working in person with you, Dave and Mike you guys are able to keep me from getting overboard with certain moves.  I have thought about it as well that I think I do learn a little better in person.  I can keep coming out to Erie, but it would be nice to find someone close as well.  I like your thoughts on this, and it confirms what has been going through my mind as well.  I know J. Shears is relatively close, but I don't know much about him.  I am sure he is fine, but I really don't trust most instructors and am afraid they will try to get me to do something that I know I should not do.  Finding one I feel I can trust would be very important for me.

I definitely want to get together with @cedrictheo as well.  It was a pleasure meeting him at the Erie outing and if nothing else hopefully we can hit up some courses from here to Chicago.

If you can learn to pull a bow with your back muscles you should be able to pull right or left handed no problem.   Also I only shoot 60 lbs and it is just fine for me.  As for your aim, if you switch to left handed your aim will be better. Think about this, you can have both eyes open when you shoot, instead of having to close your dominant eye and look only with your weaker eye!  I shoot much better left handed.

Some positive thinking as to how far the swing has come.  I had a good range session today.  The swing IS and will continue to be way better than it was a couple years ago.  If it was not for me developing the bad habit on my own, I probably would have continued to improve the scores this year.  I am glad to have a better understanding of how I learn and what I can do to improve on next year.   I'll spend the fall/winter working on getting the club in a good spot at A4 to control keys 4 and 5 a lot better.

You'd better keep at it. Please don't talk like that it makes me sad. Your swing looks a lot better from 2012 to now. Keep your head up bud(maybe down is a better saying for golf). Maybe you just have to play a few new places with me ;). You'll get there.

Thanks, I really am not all that good.  I would like to be, but you have to have the talent, the dedication, and it is questionable.  Had a blast playing golf with you as well.  My father-in-law loves that hot sauce! :-D

Yeah that is true.  I am getting excited about Whitetail bow season.  It is a nice break from everything, and I can actually live up to @Ernest Jones calling me a hick. :-D I'm kind of a metro-hick though anyway. ;-)

I am actually going to try and hit balls every week or two this winter as well, and see how things go.

I disagree with your personal assessment of your golfing skills. You and Matt are really good, it's not your fault we all played from the blue tees. :-P Btw, that sauce is good on ribs too! Down here in So. Cal. All we have are trigger happy hunter wannabes. What is the best time to bow hunt up there? That is, when there aren't rapid fire guns going off every two minutes scaring off any potential game? ;-) I think we have 100 guns to every game animal down here, including rabbits! :-D

Ha, yeah that is why I like bow hunting.  Less of a chance for getting shot.  October is the best time to hunt here.  I thought guns were illegal in Cali? :-P

Unfortunately I do not even have this option where I live.  No heated ranges, and to much snow.  I may try to set something up in my garage.  Its not heated, but it is insulated.

    • Day 234 (23 Dec 24) - Mystery Monday - what to do today….pretty straight up as I spent time with the 58 and a series of pitches (lower flighted all the way up to high fliers over the tulip tree).  Wrapped up the day going lower ball with the 9i and easy bump and runs.  Again as always the setup was key - case in point, got lazy and casually set up, feet straight and promptly hit a couple of nice heely shots hard right.  Knew it immediately, as next couple I went through the routine and flew the balls promptly too the target point.  Setup - setup - setup…
