'I'm amazed at how well you scoot the ball around the course with that hitch, how long have you been playing with? have you ever considered trying to patent it?' A couple of my favorite lines ... One of them usually works lol Anyone else have some good 'shut the f@&$ up' lines they would like to share? This should be good ;-)

I was playing the other day with a guy who was struggling off the tee.  I am pretty good at not offering any advice, but I couldn't help but notice on a tee shot that I observed that, sure enough, as he got over the ball his feet and shoulders were pointed well left of center.  After he pulled his drive, I somewhat carefully offered, "You know, not for nothing, but you were actually set up exactly on the line of that shot."  I added in the obligatory, "I do it all the time" which is absolutely true, but also so that we could commiserate as flawed golfers..

We had a good rapport (which is why I even said something in the first place) and he seemed quite surprised at the revelation and seemed almost relieved to get that particular feedback.  It's a bit of a bad habit for me, if I feel comfortable with someone, I might just start talking golf and then it's easy to get on the subject of your individual games.  Anyway, I think "setup" is somewhat immune to this dynamic in my experience.  Perhaps people don't think it's as much of an indictment of their game and they feel that it's not so much someone trying to "fix" their game but just throwing out more of a simple fact that might or might not be relevant.

I hope I'm not that guy.

I think unsolicited advice is rude and never appropriate.

I have 4 fusions in my back and do not have the most beautiful swing (short backswing and short follow through) and am not long off the tee. It never fails when I play with strangers that I get some "helpful" advice that I should turn more and I'd hit it further.

I nip it in the bud by saying Yes I do mind and I take lessons with a teaching pro if I need help. Usually the rest of the day is fine

I once got paired up with a guy who smoked about 3 cigarettes per hole. No lie. Major chain smoker. Went through about a pack and a half during our round.

Nice enough guy, but we were playing an early AM round and I got a cup of coffee from the beverage cart. He actually said "You should stop drinking coffee, that stuff is really bad for you."

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Funny!  Did he die from lung cancer on the 18th hole!

Makes me feel better. I usually only burn 2/3 of a pack.

It's part of the reason I try to avoid sharing carts with other people. When I have no choice, I'll ask and mix in some walking when I want to smoke one. Lucky for me that most of the old boys at the home courses also smoke.

Also love my coffee, but if I'm still drinking it by the time I get on the course I will not be making any putts.

No, doesn’t sound like it.

I had someone similar say that about bottled water too. Guessing it was a joke 😂

    • I am listening to 23rd Street.  24 hours a day of cars, trucks, planes, sirens, and neighbors who start lawn mowers at 6:30am. I try to drown it out with 7,600 WAVE music files on a huge USB drive.  Mostly 1950's through 1990's music.
    • Thanks! Evolvr, for sure. My indoors setup is pretty close to ready. I want to add a few more lights as it's a pretty dark place to begin with (old barn). Plan to use my iPhone 14 Pro, 720p 240 FPS. I think I got a tripod somewhere, but I nail everything down so I'll make a small box I can just plop the phone into. That way I know it's always in the same spot and level. How does the setup look in terms of angles and stuff.  I saw that topic and bookmarked it for later. A technique where you want the head to move forward and down? I've been doing that for twenty years! (not on purpose) 😛 Looks fun, I'll certainly try it out. £7000. That's certainly "down the line". What would be a good price? Thanks. I'll probably hold off until at least winter comes and see where we're living at that point. For the next six months I'll combine indoor practice with the range, which helps.
