In sports, there have been a number of dynamic duos. Arnie and Jack, Gretzky and Messier, Jordan and Pippin, Montana and Rice, Ruth and Gehrig.  Who would you say is number one?

My vote go to Ruth and Gehrig as number one, but my favorite was Jack and Arnie.

Misty May and Treanor, have one gold medal in the past three summer Olympics.

I wouldn't call Jack and Arnie a duo because they competed against each other. to me a duo are those who play together.

Probably the best in football is Montana and Jerry Rice, no doubt there. Though Steve young and Rice comes in a close second i think. Though Michael Irving and Troy Aikman is a good one to, throw in Emmit Smith.

Basketball is tough to say, i would go Scottie and Jordan, i'm not a big basketball fan

Baseball, Ruth and Gehrig is a pretty staunch duo. Though if your looking at pitching, i could probably go with the early 90's braves teams, your looking at Greg Maddox, probably the best technical pitcher ever. Tom Glavine, if you want to add in John Smoltz as well.

Baseball you get it a lot--the Bash Brothers (McGwire/Canseco), M&Ms; (Mantle & Maris).

In the golfing world you've got to go Ryder Cup.  Tiger/Stricker, Phil/Keegan.  Or mabye Tiger/Stevie Williams?

As a moderate basketball fan, I say Pippen and Jordan were the best that ever played looking at completed careers, but I would say that if Lebron and Wade manage to stay together for any length of time, they might provide competition.

I don't follow Tennis too much, but what about the Williams sisters in doubles?

Also, A-rod isn't very popular right now, but the 2009 Yankees are considered one of the best infields EVER, so Jeter and A-Rod is another one in baseball, for both hitting / fielding.

How about Omar Vizquel/Roberto Alomar? THAT could be the best middle infield of all-time.

After doing research, looks like others agree...

" No doubt that if these two would have played together longer than three years they would have been the best double play combination of all time.

Alomar played 17 seasons with seven different teams.

Over the 11 seasons from 1991 to 2001 only two second basemen would win a Gold Glove in the American League, and Alomar has 10 of them.

In 2010 Vizquel completed his 22nd season with five different teams.

From 1993 to 2001 he would win nine straight Gold Gloves at shortstop—the first while with the Mariners, and the other eight with Cleveland. This is second only to Ozzie Smith's 13 Gold Gloves.

In 2005 Vizquel would make the move to the National League, signing as a free agent with the San Francisco Giants and promptly pick up another two Gold Gloves, giving him 11 for his career.

From 1999 to 2001 Alomar and Vizquel would cover the middle infield for the Indians and each season win the Gold Glove.

Their combined fielding percentage of 0.988 is the highest in this ranking.

They averaged only 17 combined errors a season—also tops in this ranking. "

i forgot about them - The 09 Yankee's stuck out because of the two big names, and they won the championship that year.

I don't know why, but when you said Tinker to Evers to Chance, it made me think of Calico Joe by John Grisham.  A good, but not great read if you like stories involving baseball that really have little to do with baseball.

There's a great book from a couple years ago that deals with the 1908 baseball season, focusing strongly on the Cubs (it was the most recent World Series win, of course) and their trio of Tinker, Evans, and Chance. "Crazy 08," by Cait Murphy.

      The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO

      Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.

      Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
