So the Cowboys have the ball late in the 4th quarter, down by 2 and a chance to win the game and go to the playoffs. I'm thinking, where's Tony Romo when you need him? But thankfully Grasshopper Orton learned well from the 4th quarter Master...

Good point.  Common sense says that if there was a story involving a tainted Super Bowl, that wouldn't be a secret.  It would be a huuuuuuge story.

Why? The Patriots stuff was brushed under the rug, and some of their behavior likely occurred during an actual Super Bowl (practices for it), IIRC. It's not in the NFL's interest to make a big deal out of one of their premier teams cheating (or John Elway, though I only skimmed the links earlier).

I'm not a whiner-And I'm not the first to complain about it because there are plenty of articles out there. They violated the salary cap in order to get Elway his rings before he retired. The finances were during the Super Bowl years.-Just read. No my teams werent beat by the Broncos. Who cares about Jerry Jones-You abide by the rules, and if you dont have the funds of someone else-tough nuggets.-I think the spying was worse than Bountygate.
Have you actually read that Post article you linked?  The issue was about maintaining a necessary cash flow while funding the new stadium in the mid-90's and had nothing to do with the Super Bowl years.  Not all owners have the obscene finances that Jerry Jones has available when it comes to such investments.  It may have involved some sort of violation of league finance rules around 1996-97, but it sure as hell wasn't cheating in any sense of what was happening on the field in 1998 and 1999.  The people responsible were also fired.  If the league actually thought that it affected the Super Bowl, don't you think that there would have been a lot more publicity about it?  The second article, which isn't really an article at all but a blog entry, is hardly believable when he takes his cue from a cartoon. It makes you sound more like a whiner than anything else.  You are the first person I've ever heard even suggest that the Bronco SB wins were anything but proper.  The Post article didn't even hint at that.  Did your team get beat that you seem so upset by such a relatively minor money management issue?  As you said yourself, it doesn't compare to what Belichick did, and his spying pales next to the Saint's Bounty-gate.
It was?  I saw and heard about it all over TV when it came up.  ESPN wasn't shy about bringing it up.  Not sure how you say it wasn't publicized.  It certainly wasn't in the same league with the Saints bounty hunting, but it was a big deal for a while.

Yeah, I agree that the Patriots seemed to catch a big break by having been allowed to get away with the spying with virtually no repercussions.  Roger Goodell definitely dropped the ball on that one, in a lot of people's views at least, mine included.  However, that isn't the same as it not being publicized.  I'd never even heard of this stuff Phil's talking about until tonight.  (Of course there is also the possibility that I just wasn't paying attention back then - I don't remember - but I doubt it)

See Rich? I didn't say it was completely ignored and I didn't say it "wasn't publicized." I said the NFL brushed it under the rug.

Anyway, my team's out, so my interest in "the NFL" is basically over as well.

He's over-rated. Doesn't suck, though. Got lucky to win that first SB with that lollipop pass that the dude caught against his helmet.

To be *lucky* you have to be in the game - if they were down by 3 TDs, it would not have been considered a *lucky* catch.

Cowboys out and my Packers somehow stick around.......and shut up da Bears fans with some last minute heroics. All in all a great day of football. The only downside being that I couldn't see my Packers because I was forced to watch the abysmal Bucs game. Next year I get the NFL package, that's all there is to it!

Nah. Lucky is lucky. If you hit the back of a turtle in a pond and your ball bounces onto the green, it doesn't matter if you're alone or in the final group of the U.S. Open - both shots were equally lucky.

if you can live without HD, chromecast and a website can get you around that.

if you can live without HD, ...

I'd like to meet the sports fan for whom this statement rings true.

It surely ain't me ... I'm a spoiled brat these days.  In fact, I like to watch a lot of UCLA football and basketball games, and they are frequently on the PAC-12 network, which for some weird reason, is not available to me in HD, so I'm stuck watching in regular "D."  Not fun times.

Talk about first world problems. ;)

Ha ha! You sound like my son. He's very close to the point that if it's not HD he won't watch. I must admit when I go to his house it's nice to be able to always see the golf ball rolling across the green.

I have a nice HD television but don't have HD on my satellite package (for some reason). I need to check about getting it. Seems like when we got the satellite there was some weird choice like either getting DVR or HD but not both (or something like that).

Of course I remember getting excited when I got a rotor on top of my antenna so I didn't have to go outside and turn the pole to pick up one of the three stations.

Wow ... lots of coaches got fired today (or yesterday).

So now begins the silly part where half of the same guys who were thought incompetent by one team are re-hired by another.  As they say ... one man's trash is another man's treasure, I suppose.

Yep. Gotta love Black Monday.

Browns are going after Josh McDaniels.

Bucs are going after Lovie Smith.

Joe Philbin might be fired later in the week.

Bob Stoops is rumored to be ready to leave OK, and would probably get one of the vacancies if he wanted one.

The Skins are supposedly trying to steal Art Briles from Baylor, but I doubt that happens. Synder's a pompous ass and will try all he can to overpay for a big name NFL coach.

The Vikings are linked to numerous coaches, but supposedly have Penn State's Bill O'Brien at the top of their list, as do the Texans.

Fun stuff.

And everybody is wondering who will end up at Texas and whether somebody from the NFL would take that job.

I actually think the Browns have a bunch of good pieces to work with. They have a the Colts' first round pick for T-Rich. Josh Gordon is disgusting and Jordan Cameron is a good receiving TE. Their defense collapsed down the stretch, but they have a ton of talent to work with there. And Brian Hoyer actually looked good before tearing his ACL.

I dunno, I think they're a good candidate to do well next year with the right series of off-season moves.

I'm not sure if McDaniels is the answer though.

Yea, they're kind of a mess right now.

Edit: Uh Oh
