One of the announcers mention that the air quality was listed as "unhealthy". Considering that a recent LPGA tournament was delayed due to smog with several of the players wearing surgical face masks while playing, I would guess that the general air quality in China is terrible. When you watch tournaments from China, you never seem to see the sun or any shadows.  No EPA air quality restrictions, just burn whatever you want and crank out the cheap goods for export. I would not be surprised to see plenty of lung and respiratory disease among the Chinese population in the near future. And plenty of them still smoke!

You might be right, but I thought I heard the announcers say that on and off rain was in the forecast, so there might have been some clouds mixed it also- in either case, it was really gray and depressing looking.
