Which brand/model is that?

Looks like (or very similar to) the Merkur HD.

So I'm guessing the handle is not as important as the blades you get, am I right?

I'm sure you'd get arguments on both sides of that one.  The Merkur HD (and similar) is sort of the 'gold standard' I think.  They're nice and weighty and have excellent construction.

When it comes to blades they are so many the best thing is to get sampler packs (most only shops offer them) and try a bunch out.  Your face will like some and not others.  Lots of good brands to try at the link below.

I like Feather blades myself.

I'm also a Feather fan. They're really sharp, so it may take a while to get used to and you might get cut at first, but they also work really well.

Any of you get ingrown hairs on your neck?

I used to, really bad. I switched to using clippers with the guard removed and haven't had any issues since, it's much nicer to have a blemish free face and the slight stubble looks good too.

Schick Xtreme 3 with Gillette (Sensitive Skin) gel on head and electric clippers on face. I'll have bumps and ingrown hairs all over my face if I shave with a manual. Both my dad and I wear shaved heads, but he has to use electric clipper for his head as well.

Well, there is a pretty sizable market for single blade razors and people who swear by them. A friend of mine, for one. Says he'll never go back to multi blade razors.

As a person who grew up using Gillette Blue Blades, I would NEVER go back to a single blade. Reasons: 1) not as comfortable; 2) not as close; 3) the blade didn't last very long, and, 4) the single edge blade would yield many more nicks and cuts.

For many years I used Shick Sensor razor blades, but recently found a new razor, the BiC Hybrid Advance Disposable Razor System . The BiC system is the best I have used, by far:  1) the shave is close and comfortable; 2) the razor's handle  is light and maneuverable; 3) the heads are disposable and last 6-8 weeks or longer; and, 4) I can get more than a year of shaves for less than ten dollars.

As for the shaving cream, for years I used Noxema Medicated Shave Cream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM59nSkjEWU). My favorite was Wild Forest.  But sometime in the late 80's I switched to Edge protective gel.  I prefer Edge for sensitive skin with aloe (orange cap).

Because of this thread, I did a bit more research on the DE safety razors, and have decided to give it a try. I ended up buying a Murker safety razor, as well as a brush, some shaving soap and a stand. The initial investment wasn't exactly cheap (although it wasn't too bad) but now that I have a razor and brush, the only real cost will be for new blades which are between 50 cents and a dollar each from what I've seen.

I've been wet shaving with good cream and a brush for nearly a year now, and I'll never go back to canned soap again. I haven't gotten into DE or straight razors yet, but planning on getting a straight blade when I have the cash to drop on one. When I consider how much I spend on disposable blades, it wouldn't take long to start saving money.

Not sure what soap or cream you've got, but I'd definitely recommend Jack Black Triple Cushion. Biggest thing for me is pre-shave oil. Same blades and same cream, the results are much better when I use it than when I don't.

Right there with you both. I'd been talking about going "old school" for a while and my wife bought me a trial kit from "The Art of Shaving" that had shaving oil, a badger brush, shaving soap/cup, and the after shave balm. WOW - what a difference just with that and my regular razor. Wanted to still have the full experience and got a Merkur safety razor and love it. Takes me back to when I would watch my grandfather and dad go through their routine. The shave is unreal and the ritual is sort of fun.

Facial hair is known to be directly rated to internal testosterone levels.  So, more testosterone = more facial hair.  And, this in important, more testosterone = more and better penis function.

Schick Hydro 5 is the best razor I've ever used. Only downside is I keep finding it in the shower caddy after the wife has been "grooming". Consider that an additional testimonial, I guess.
