Well I though my statements made it quite clear I wasn't but there is no need to argue any further.

I want Renee and then as long as the other one isn't Mary I will be fine with it. I'm hoping they let the girls play some real golf this week. Just have the entire show of them playing like 5 or 6 holes as a foursome. Two lowest scores go home.

Doesn't matter to me, as long as Mary is out on Monday.

Now what I know about golf swings you can put in a thimble, but it seems to me that all these gals flip the club through impact when they're hitting short shots -- pitches and long chips. Am I seeing that right?

It often looks "flippy" when hitting pitch shots even when executed very well. From what I've seen most of those girls aren't very impressive around the greens but I wouldn't read too much into what appears to be a flip on a pitch shot.

shows it very well.

I said that earlier about Renee's swing...

I think I was rooting more for the Edel putter than I was Renee tonight :-D

Was I seeing something wrong, or was Fiamma's drop when she hit the ball in the water completely illegal? She dropped on the bank right where the ball kicked in the water, but she was obviously closer to the hole.

Posted
Nevermind, I just watched it back and she had a rules official directing her. It must have been marked as a lateral water hazard so that she was able to drop within two club lengths without being closer to the hole, and then due to the ball rolling back into the hazard when dropped she was allowed to place it.

Easy choice for me who root for in the finale.

Yeah.  It's not shaping up to be a good show because I don't think Fiamma has a prayer.

If Jackie runs away with it, which I agree appears likely, then I think this will go down as one of the poorer Big Break seasons I can remember (I started watching in 2008, so whatever season that was).

Well I thought the golf might get better after most of the "bad" players were eliminated...I was wrong...

When leaving 6' to 8' putts after easy short game shots are considered the good shots and skulling easy pitches across the greens are the bad shots I am unimpressed.

(I see enough of that in our Saturday games).

My beefs for the show TODAY:

  1. The golf channel has become so lazy that it is predictable on who's ball is in trouble. Show the video of who didn't hit the ball and then show the troubled ball
  2. Are par 5's in the LPGA only 420 yards? I mean come on, 176 to the green for the second shot? How are these girls supposed to compete with the Ko's, Wie's and Gerina's?
  3. Mary's perception on the show was probably unfair.  I may not don't like the way Mary looks but I get her personality, and think she is actually a cool girl.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
