I see those things around the house a lot but have never been stung by one.

Giant hornet update (not that anybody cares): ;-) I found where the nest is and it couldn't be in a harder place to irradicate. It appears to be in a small attic section of an add-on room with no access without taking off either the roof or the ceiling (which ain't happening). There are hundreds of them coming and going through a small opening between the roof and the wall. Tried spraying some wasp and hornet killer up through the crack but didn't do much good. Only pissed them off and they were swarming all around me and I had to sound retreat. BTW that wasp and hornet spray doesn't seem to instantly kill those things like it does normal hornets. Read some articles on their stings and it seems they are nasty.

@MS256 Hornets are nasty critters as are yellow jackets. You want to wait until dusk when they are dormant before unloading the spray. I had to do that yesterday. It's actually how I twisted my ankle. I was mowing the part of the yard for my son close to the yellow jackets since he got stung a few weeks ago. My friend got nailed a few times last Tuesday on the golf course on our 8th hole (17 on the eagle for @saevel25 and @mcanadiens ). There was a huge nest in a tree by the tee box.

Any of ya'll ever been stung by one of those great big Japanese hornets? (Or that's what we call them). My wife called and said one stung her on the shoulder and said it was way worse than any sting she ever had before. I asked her if she felt like she might be having an allergic reaction and she said she didn't think so but the pain was very bad all the way up to her neck. I see those things around the house a lot but have never been stung by one.

Yeah I usually enjoy a good hornet fight at night. Problem with these things is that they are not dormant at night and are attracted to light. Without access to the actual nest it's going to be a chore. Maybe some dynamite would do the trick? ;-)

I prefer C4 over dynamite and know more about eradicating gophers, but you might want to call an exterminator. These things sound bada**.

+1 Sounds a little too dangerous to do on your own, better call an exterminator.

I have an idea I'm going to try first. Was just thinking: They are attracted to light at night (unlike other hornets). They fly against the window screen when the light is on in that room. Hmmm. Why not a bug zapping light? Better than the other options right now. I'm going by the store to get one and give it a shot when I get off work at midnight.

Better get a pretty high powered one? I'm not sure what they're rated for, or what size bugs they can zap, but you'd still have to deal with the nest somehow.

 It may blow a transformer if enough of them hit it at once. ;-) Should be fun though.

My wife looked at a preschool today that we're probably going to enroll our son at. I'm going to be working on my swing a lot next year...

nice!  I'm going through the motions of enrolling the oldest in KG and the other in pre-KG.. I never really calculated the cost of education starting that young, but here in the middle east I'm thinking it will be expensive.. "Because there is no damn way I'm going to be putting them through public schools here"

I think the part that surprised me the most is that when I asked how much the preschool will cost me, they basically said it is the same as KG.. (only diff is a 10% discount for having two kids in the same school)  #hey thanks

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
