My first 3 wood arrived in the mail yesterday. I took it out today and took a couple practice swings. I teed the ball with a tee height a bit less than my driver tee height. The hole was a par 4 between 350-400 yards with the tee box and green at roughly the same elevation. My ball ended up 10-20 yards short of the green, making it a 300+ yard hit.

Needless to say I plan on using the 3 wood whenever possible

What kind of three wood is it? On short par 4's you may have to tee up with nothing more then a 7 iron so you dont go past the green.

300 yds with a 3w???

Not yet I don't plan on rushing things. I have just started playing and have a lot I want to accomplish in this my first year playing. My primary focus currently is consistency and perfecting mechanics. Physically I am in roughly the same physical shape as Tiger Woods (categories include: strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, cardiovascular).

SO if this hole was 305-400 and you were 10-20 yds off the green then this shot was possibly.............

380 yards!?!?!?!?!?! Yo?u must hit your diver a consisten 420 easy eh

Man you are something else. Lets recap:

In the week or two you have been on this forum you have:

1. Hit 300+ drives on 8 out of 10 holes while playing your second round of golf from the championship tees. Impressive!

2. Vowed to become a scratch golfer in one years time. Gutsy!

3. Hit a new 3 wood right out of the box 300 yards with the first swing. Awe-inspiring!

4. Claimed to be in the same physical shape as Tiger Woods. Dubious!

I tell you what, you may be completely full of $^@&, but your claims are at least more fun to read than all the freakin' "how far can you or anyone else hit your drive" posts. Keep it up!

I think I'll go out on a limb here and say that you just might be exaggerating a little bit.

I once hit a 3-Wood that got caught up in a tornado and actually landed 3.2 miles away.

I think I win.

What the guy isn't mentioning is that it was a 150 mph wind towards the green.

I know of guys like this this. Really rare though. I remember one really talented footballer (player in national league) played golf for the first time and scored 80 and afterwoods said, "what's so hard about this?" Not surprisingly, his partners (mid 'cappers) wanted to strangle him.

Why don't the pros ever find those great woods? boo would need the five wood on most holes.

I hit driver the other day into a 50 mph wind and uphill about 100 feet 750 yards over a par 5 by 200 yards. I then hit wedge to the center of the green from 200 out.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
