Ok so was in a golf class today, teed up a ball with a cobra long tom 2 wood, the above club and remembered reading on line that its recommended to hit down on fairway woods even on the tee. As can be seen that only lasted one swing.

The 2 wood came with a 45 inch shaft, Grafalloy blackbird fairway 45 inch stiff.  I cant seem to find the fairway version of the shaft, but can find the driver length 47 inch shaft for long drivers.

Would it be best to use the same shaft and use a shaft extension?

Cut a 47 inch shaft to fit it?

Or is their another good long fairway wood shaft out there?

I though they all recommend a sweeping swing rather than hitting down with the wood? Tough luck there though!

I guess I was talking in general terms, and I'm sure tiger and others do some other things that would not be recommended for all as well.

He also swings at 120 mph A player that swings 100mph or less is going to run into problems if they start taking divots with their fairway woods.

What would be the effects of cutting a 47 inch long driver shaft down to 44? I know it would be stiffer but would it be strong enough to hit off the deck? I looked at the club, mentioned, but my 2 wood head is still good so id rather just reshaft, instead of buying a new club.

Depends on where you trim it.  Most shaft companies will have recommendations for trimming.  For fairways, Aldila recommends trimming 1" off the tip first, then cut to length for their driver/wood shafts.  This give the tip a bit more strength because you are going to hit the ground on occasion.

Woods off a tee should either be "swept" or hit on a upward arc. Lowers the spin rate and decreases slices or hooks. Off the deck- a sweep or SLIGHTLY descending blow. You don't chop down on it like a pitching wedge. Other than maybe a 5 or 7 wd or hybrid out of the rough to chop one out, maybe.

Went out and played a round today at my home course. Took an old callaway bb  warbird, backspin was crazy on it, really missed the 2, hopefully i can get my golf teacher to fix it wither tommorow or saturday. Would there be a big enough gap between a 2 wood and a 4 wood at the same length?

On the bright side only lost four balls today.

When you see slo-mo close ups of Woods's 3W off the deck, even off a fee sometimes, he does take a divot. Well after the ball. That's the difference. The problem with hit down is it is taken literally. Pulling the hands down to the ground as opposed to trying to get the low point more forward. Even Woods tends to hit a popup with a big headed club once in awhile.

Trim code = W1, which means butt trim to length only. The raw shaft is 47" long to handle over-length driver.

Always check the trim code before you buy and install a shaft.

Did my first reshafting job on it, a few weeks ago.

Got a little epoxy on the shaft but haven't had any problems with it coming loose since than.

Nice! I just finished my first re-shaft last week. How does it play? Did you get the same shaft as the original? [EDIT: You did not put a ferrule on it?]

Ferrules aren't strictly necessary, but they hide bits of epoxy or scratches on the shaft. Plus getting different colors can make your clubs pop a bit. They make ferrules you can snap on and glue so don't sweat it if you want to add one. If the sticker doesn't bother you at address then the lack of a ferrule won't.

Yeah its the same shaft i just ground down the broken bit some. I was in my schools golf shop and couldn't find a ferrule to put on it.  It plays pretty good, bit more control since its  almost an inch shorter  45' down to 44'.

Still cant hit it off the tee, but its a real good club off the deck. Which is surprising based on its size.

Did the re-shafting a few weeks ago just know remembered to put up pics.

Well, it happened again,I was on the driving range, hitting a teed up ball and the head went flying down the range. Based on the looks of it the shaft just pulled out of it. Was it just bad epoxy or could i just be catching the tee and rippping the heads off?
