I was at the range in March next to an 11 year old girl.  Her swing wasn't quite this good, but it was very impressive.  I chatted with her and her grandmother.  Delightful kid.

Anyone know her distances?

It seems unreal an 11 year old girl can have the length to shoot a 68.....crazy

I've seen some really talented kids at the range that make me want to quit golf in shame.

I heard a reporter say she hit's a driver 200 yards. If true that's not bad for an 11 year old girl but doesn't explain being able to shoot a 68.

Must have the best short game in the world. :-D

Good for her!

I heard a reporter say she hit's a driver 200 yards.

I heard 180 - 200. After I heard that, I lost all respect for this girl. That's terribly short. ***. That was total sarcasm. I have an 11 yr old daughter and couldn't imagine someone her age and stature being able to hit it so far. I am also amazed that she can post sub par rounds with her distances. This girl's potential is through the roof. Just think how good she may be when she grows and drives the ball 250+! It'll be interesting to see if she becomes a superstar in the next 10 years...

If she can get through puberty, and don't get burned out, she can be another Lexi or Lydia.   Sports are full of young promising phenom who never went beyond "promising."

I'm no swing coach but it looks like she takes the club pretty far behind her body and creates a tremendous amount of torque just to be able to hit the ball even 200 yards. She keeps this swing up and her body matures she'll have the distance to play with the boys on a regular basis. And think of the short game that you gotta have to be scoring like that with such a short tee ball. It's straight up scary. I don't watch women's golf but I'll definitely be tuning in to watch her play.

Let's say she drives it 190. Perhaps she gets some roll - 210? How is she consistently parring the 400+ yard par 4s?

I assume max par 4 for women's sectional is around 425? She's basically got to chip/pitch and putt it in on those.

Great swing it amazes me to see how a mind free of clutter and natural ability combine to make a solid golf swing. My son just turned 12, is very small for his age and yet he moves out there pretty good.

I'm just guessing here, but it wouldn't surprise me if she didn't specifically pick that particular qualifying site because it best suited her relative short length. Agree. Amazing. I'll tune in to watch her!

I think the distance of that course was about 6200.  So about your normal white tees.  If you can drive it 200, you can score on a course that length.  IF YOU'RE PRACTICALLY PERFECT WITH YOUR SHORT GAME.

Or maybe she hits a ton of greens from 170 yards.  Which sounds tough to do when your driver is going 200.

OK, I'm a little late reading the details of this story. 2nd place in the qualifying was 7 strokes behind. Here's her scorecard. The 421 yard par 4 she played even, +1, -1. Dunno if that hole has any elevation changes. Wish there was a shotlink summary available of how she played the holes.

Wow.

Is this the Olympic Club she's playing? Yeah, the visor is a giveaway. I thought there was a public course near the museum.

She birdied 421 yard par 4 hole which suggests, she must have hit a drive well over 200 yards, and went with 3w or hybrid for the 2nd shot.  Looking at other hole scores, she must be pretty accurate with her long clubs (hybrid, wood).   That's true with a lot of LPGA players who are averaging less than 240 yards with their drive.   Of course, they are not 11 year olds with a lot of growing up (physically) to do.   Can't wait till next month to see what Li does.

Thanks. That's probably Lincoln Park? It's surely not The Presidio.

I would love to know her stats for GIR, fairways hit and putting.

When I was a junior I would get frustrated at me hitting a 5 iron to a par 3 and my opponent hitting a driver. He would get on the green and two putt for par.

He never missed a fairway (well maybe 1 hole a round) and at worst would be in the fringe, he became a great golfer as he grew up and got longer.

It is exciting to think of what is possible when this girl is grown up.

Who's gonna watch 'kid golf'?  Tough enough to interested  watching  nubile women on the TV but kids on TV hitting golf balls means the end of the LPGA.

    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
