Reminds me a lot of what Muirfield looked last year at the British. Most that don't follow golf don't realize that brown is actually good most of the time.

Course is playing a lot like it did the first round in '99. If memory serves me right there were around 3 or 4 guys tied for the lead at -3 and a few more one back at -2. Could look something close to that by day's end. Course playing kinda soft early on but will only get harder and harder.

Yea they have no clue what they are talking about. I am watching online, following Fitzpatrick, Phil, and Rose. The course looks spectacular. I've been down to Pinehurst to play some of the courses around the area. I can just imagine how it would be to stand on those tees and view that course. I love it. I really do like how the natural areas look. Actually I stood near 18th green about 2 months before this tournament, and was just amazed at how visually stunning the course looked.

I love the way that the course looks as well. Don't get me wrong, pristine courses that are manicured out the A like Augusta are absolutely amazing. However, I do love natural looking courses and courses that put off a kind of "links" vibe as well. People who see brown patches and laugh and make outrageous claims are seriously clueless.

I thought of that too from last year's (British) Open Championship.

This Fitzpatrick kid is killing it! Are amateurs not allowed to wear hats? None of the ones I've seen are wearing one.

I'm not sure if wearing a hat with a Logo might jeopardize their amateur status. Anyone?

They could wear an MLB team's hat or whatever if that was the deal.

They are but not sponsored ones. Usually they'll wear one from their college or a US Open hat or something like that.

Right. Unless they just don't want to wear a hat. :-)

The correct explanation is that, as amateurs, they are under no contractual obligation to wear a hat. They can wear a Titleist hat if they so choose, but the Acushnet Company isn't compensating them for the privilege. Here's a lesson for all you aspiring pros out there: wear plus-fours, and television networks will cover every stroke you make.

Good point. I think I'll set mine from my phone right now. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm sure you will. Doesn't ESPN usually replay the majors late night through early AM?

Does Jordan Spieth bitch after every bad shot? His attitude reminds me of Bubba, which is kind of annoying.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
