Yes, pulled ball flight if I made some mistake in my swing, pull-straight. I have to keep my hips still on my backswing (well see at next round :)...using shot tracer would be nice.

On that day, I have one slice that make me in trouble. Another mistake mostly on left side of fairway.

But, I am quite happy with my swing, mostly straight, only need more distance/swing speed....I think I should make faster hip turn.

On that video, surely I have to practice more on putting :)

I recorded a few shots Sunday. I was mostly interested in trying to apply my priority on the course. I still have a long way to go and any change is going to be incremental. I started running out of battery so didn't record any shots on the back nine.

Maybe not caring about the score is a good thing - I should learn to do that more often. As it turned out, I shot my lowest score to date, though I can't figure out how. My iron shots were so-so and my putting and short game were really quite bad.

Very good contact with the driver all day even though my weight is still staying back more than I'd like. Ball flight was high and for the most part straight. The wind would either carry those high drives really far or stop them dead, depending on which direction I was hitting. One of those shorter drives felt like it hit dead center on the face.

Hit a few more GIR on the back nine but would turn those par opportunities into bogies with poor putting. Read, bead and speed were WAY off on lag putts and even on short ones. It didn't really bother me because I wasn't concerned about the short game.

I am looking forward to the next time out to see if I can focus on my priority a little better than I did on Sunday. It's really hard for me to disregard good contact.

Congrats Jon! A personal best should always be celebrated. Looking at your GG recap it looks like you drove the ball well and your iron shots were better than you think. Now you got me wanting to do a course Vlog lol.

You should give it a try. I think it can help us learn more about our games.

I like watching how other's play as well. Looking at some of the better players' videos, it always amazes how often and well they can make shots that are so difficult for me... "Missed green? No problem. I'll just chip it to within 3ft and save par".

Agreed. I enjoy watching them choose targets and make shot selections. Makes me realize how overly aggressive I am at times, and how overly conservative I can be when I am playing well.

The course was mostly empty yesterday morning and since my playing partner didn't show up, I decided to record the first 9 holes.

I debated uploading the video because, let's face it, while it's interesting for us crappy golfers to watch good players, nobody want's to lose 14 minutes of their life watching me play shitty golf.

But the round was fairly typical and when I watched it became clearer just how costly some of my weaknesses are. The full swing is what it is and while I'm still not getting any weight forward, it wasn't as bad yesterday as it's been at times in the past.

Yesterday, the short game and putting cost more strokes than the full swing. Of course, that isn't always the case. And it could be argued that had I hit more greens, I wouldn't have to depend on my chipping and pitching.

I simply have to improve everything if I want to get to bogey golf.

Still, this wasn't a bad way to spend an October Sunday morning in Northern Michigan.

Thanks @boogielicious. If you get a chance to record some holes you should.

At least you have a good swing and play at a respectable level. I had to get over that whole self-consciousness thing. My instructor saw this and was giving me shit (which is what I need) about a lackadaisical pre-shot routine. He then told me I wasn’t getting my weight forward. I couldn’t help but think “remember when I approached you a few months back and asked if you could help me get my weight forward?”.

Even if I hadn’t posted this, I think it was helpful in that I’m seeing some tendencies I hadn’t thought about before.... need to learn some short game shots, I’m being a bit too timid on staying away from trouble on approaches, focus more when putting, and maybe quit trying to swing easier with the driver.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed it...

I like the view, it trees, an empty course...it weather...I like it

In my country, I dont have an empty course like that (especially at weekend).....and of course I dont have weather like that. :)

Thanks @efdeel74. Likewise on your videos.

The fall colors are not as impressive this year and it was overcast when I recorded this round. But when the sun hits those translucent leaves the colors really "pop". If I live to be 100 it's something I'll never get tired of seeing.

I've never been to the tropics but I enjoy watching some of the tournaments on TV that are hosted down there... especially in the winter!

Here's my very first video log. I shot this with my Samsung Galaxy S8 on a windy day way back in August. I didn't use a tripod or anything. I just set my phone on the cart, or on a head cover, or just made a little stand for it with 4 golf tees. I decided to take out nearly all the sound. To be honest it was brutally annoying. All you heard was the wind. (As I mentioned it was windy) So I put music in the background. I happened to be working on some Halloween stuff recently so I had "Here Come the Mummies" songs handy. If you don't like The Mummies' music you could turn the sound off and be no worse off. Please comment on the video. Comment on my swing. Comment on my pre-shot-routine (or lack there of.) Let me know what you think. I'm guessing I should also post this over in the Vlogs thread?

Nice. Like that par save celebration on #6 lol.

Yeah, I'd missed 2 reasonably easy birdie puts on 3 and 5, so that par save felt pretty good.

    • Some notes on what worked for my driver…. 1. Firmer grip pressure 2. Fling club back feeling like it’s left arm only. Right arm is along for the ride. *Kind of my go to for everything right now. It keeps the hands in, and allows me to feel like I can put the brakes on the backswing and swing the arms down. Also feels easier to get the right arm up off the chest.  3. Fricken rip it. If I do that, and I don’t lower the club with my body, I am stripping it. Biggest misses are maybe a slight pull or maybe a straight draw if I toe it.
    • Aside from anything else, the D player gets to play their shot from the same place as the A/B/C player each time. SWAT (assuming it's what I think it is) the D player is playing from D player spots while everyone else is not. Hit one OB in a scramble and you get a go at the next shot. Hit one OB in SWAT and your next contribution will be the next hole.
    • With regard to dialing in distance wedges, I think it goes without saying that you need to have a pretty repeatable swing to start honing in on the numbers...meaning you wouldn't go through this exercise during a swing change or after a long hiatus.  As a not-often-enough golfer, I'm probably a little less repeatable than most of you. But I think I could still come up with some rough numbers once I get access to a launch monitor or space to put in the time. I might just have to remove some outliers where I completely biff the shot 😅 When you're coming up with the numbers for your wedge/swing combination, I'm assuming you take an average of several reps. Just curious how many in each set you're averaging? If you're all over the place, does it make more sense to come up with a small range for each swing?
    • They have the potential for every one of their shots to count, and thus feel involved. And I think a lot of people use the C and D player shots more often than they think, if only because if they hit a decent shot the B and A player can "go after it" a little (typically resulting in a worse shot overall). When they're chipping for bogey and the A player has a 15 footer for birdie, they've been out of the hole for a little while already. They feel like they may as well not even be there. That's a big difference. I don't love scrambles, either, but they are what they are, and they do involve everyone more so than a SWAT.
    • D players are just as sidelined in scrambles - maybe they hit one lucky shot or sink 1 long putt (putting first, always).
