+1 but i shot a 97 on the first round of the year last Friday on ground that was so frozen that you couldn't put a tee all the way into the ground and just getting it in the turn took a minute or two.  I played in similar conditions last year and had forgotten how much "fun" it was seeing my second shot hit the greens and bounce high off them.  Made for some interesting decisions on where to land the ball to try and get on the greens.  To say I failed miserably figuring that out is an understatement.  Anyway, started off the year shooting under 100 so I'm not going to complain.

Rating/Slope: 70.7/120

Par: 73

Score: 97 (+24)

Penalties: 2

Putts: 34 (1.89 / hole)

FIR: 3 / 14 (21.43%)

GIR: 1 / 18 (5.56%)

Pars: 5

Bogies: 5

Doubles: 6

Triples: 1

More than Triples: 1

Not bad at all.

You sir, are doubtlessly hardier stock that I am. Much below 40 degrees and I have trouble getting my shoes tied.  We had 50 degrees on Saturday, but a monsoon red octobered the greens. Now the deep freeze has hit. I'll be lucky to get more than a round or two for the next couple of months.

Haha, thanks. To be honest, now with the snow starting to hit and the weather getting into the teens, I'm not sure how much golf will be in my future into March or April. :(

  • 1 month later...
I was able to hit a bucket this week for the first time in a while. I took only three clubs. I hit my PW and driver like a guy who shoots in the 90's and my 7 iron like a guy who struggles to score 105-110. :pound:

Driver: Taylormade RBZ :tmade: Irons: Titleist AP1 :titleist: PW-4 All other clubs are needing upgrading as I am able to afford it.

Well thanks to Gipper for pointing me to this thread. Just been playing about 4 months and trying to break 100. My best round so far is 104. Played a new longer course this weekend and shot 111. I did play about a year right after college when I worked nights, but that was 28 years ago. So I am starting from scratch and sending videos into evolvr for the last couple of months.

The longer season should help you there. It is freezing here and I am counting the months until I get to golf. What parts of your game are you currently working on rrives? My big focus my first year was eliminating penalty shots.....i tookit personally having to count strokes I didn't get to swing on. This year I hope to reduce my 3 putts and improve my chipping. I look forward to hearing how it goes for ya.

Currently working on just getting my irons up in the air.  Making progress with the help of the lessons from evolvr.   Driving isn't the longest but normally straight (lately I have been slicing though).  Putting is decent but this past weekend was not good.

Since I can't go out and hit any balls, I've been doing a lot of dry swings, and I'm toying with the idea of getting my right elbow into my side, using the feel from the thread about lag in Swing Thoughts of feeling that the elbow is coming across my body. I'm not trying to get lag per se, just that I've been thinking about the golf swing generally and this idea of essentially getting my hands down at the ball is making sense in my mind. We'll see if anything comes of it.

Also been playing around with the putting method of chipping that is constantly cited on this site. I'm going back and forth on it. I see some benefits from it, but I just have an emotional aversion to it, so I'll work on it until I can get out and practice it on grass.

I would suggest if you do the dry swings that you do it in front of a mirror so you can get the visual that you're doing it correctly.

I do as much of that as I can, but where we have mirrors isn't where I can take my swings. I did a lot of videoing last year, but I didn't know what I was looking for as much as I do this year.

You could always but a $10 lightweight full length door mirror and just put it where you need it and then store it when you're not using it.

Played 9 yesterday with 10-20 mph winds.  Shot 50 and did not hit the ball all that well.  If anyone is interested you can view my round at gamegolf by click on this link:

First off nice round. Second, that game golf is great! I followed that thread here but this is the first time I have seen a round wrap up. Pretty unbelievable. I will have to look into getting this.

First off congrats on going out when most people I know would find an excuse to stay off the course. And second, those par 3s of 200yds wow!!!! At my course the par 3s are 200 from the back of the "pro" boxes. For the men's boxes the longest is 170.

I had not noticed the game golf listings of yardage for those holes.  The Tee markers have been shorten for those holes.  Hole #4 is 186 yards and Hole #7 is 178.   On the back nine there still is a 205 par 3.   I had the course pretty much to myself when I started (1:30 pm)  but several people where playing by the time I was finished.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this site and I've been playing golf for about a year and a few months. I got the "fever" right away, and it hasn't lightened up. Seems like I'm reading about golf every night before bed and talking about golf during the day (when I can). I play on average probably 4-5 rounds a month. I'm always desperately trying to break 100, and today I shot a 99. Only my 3rd time doing it! And of course, as I'm sure most of you can relate, I can think back to probably 10 easy shots I screwed up. One thing I found very helpful was something I read in a golf digest magazine. If you score a 6 on every hole except the par 3s, and get a par on all the par 3s, you should get a 96. 48 on both sides. Trying to make par on all the par 3s puts a little pressure on, but it takes it all off on the other holes. Hit your drive short or in the trees? It's ok, you still have 5 shots to make it there. I don't try as many miracle shots, and it's easier to take my medicine when needed. I figure if I can get on in 4, then I still have 2 putts to get my 6. Takes all the pressure off. And you'd be surprised how many bogeys you get to make up for 7s and 8s or 4s and 5s on the par 3s. I'm no expert but I've been living the "trying to break 100" club every day. My rounds have gone from averaging in the high 110s-120, to averaging low 100s. With more 90s to come! Love this site so far and so glad to be part of the group!

I actually find it helpful to not even think about how I'm scoring. Obviously, there is counting strokes for the current hole, but as soon as it goes on the card, I try to forget it. Then I'll grab the ole 19th hole beverage and add it up.

    • What brand is it? Are there actually items you can't buy online? If you want the Chinese stuff. I'd look closer to home first, even if they are also made in China. Some of the Temu stuff is stupid cheap and I'm not buying it.
    • For anyone in Europe, it seems they still got grips in stock here:  Puregrips   I may just order some myself. Having used only the Pure Pros I'm tempted to order DTX.
    • Day 323: another light day. Just putted on my mat for a bit. Working on start line and a good stroke.
    • Day 143 - Made some swings working on shallow hands in the backswing, a good weight shift, and more hip turn in the downswing.
    • Day 46: Really struggled today, maybe some fatigue from a long weekend with lots of yard work, family time, and two early rounds of golf. I just could not find the ball at all with full swings. Slow, fast, super slow, medium speed, it didn't matter. I was hitting all sorts of terrible shots; chunks, shanks, tops, pulls, pushes, basically every miss was a possibility. Stopped after about 20 balls and hit the mental reset and changed course to "still head" fundamental practice while making easy swings. Hit the ball well doing this. Stuck with it for about 15 balls, and then did a little pitching and chipping practice.
