I saw a receiver get penalized yesterday for Off PI when he was pushing the corner's arm off of him. It always seems like the officials pick and choose what they want to call. Drives me nuts!

Yeah.  There was one in the Chargers game (which by itself ended up not mattering) that was beyond infuriating.  The receiver got taken down in the end zone (deserving of a penalty by current rules) and you could actually see the ref go for his flag, but he kind of fumbled grabbing for it and then .... changed his mind.  Argh!!!!!!!!!!!

PI is the single most costly penalty in football.  You get yards and the clock stops.  I wish they would either do 15 yards total or let coaches challenge it.  It was won many games with many dubious calls.

The main thing I want is equality in penalty calling. It simply seems like the officials are favoring one team over another in most games that I watch. Perhaps it's perception, but it just seems like some teams are allowed to get away with murder while others get flagged for a slight infraction.

Yep, sorry...this is football and that's called a tackle.

Same thing happened to Paul Kruger last week. That was a clean hit, and he shouldn't be punished for making a big play.

Reffing in both the NFL and NHL continues to be the single worst aspect of both leagues.

Yup. I think they'll change it next year to make those big penalties reviewable. They should be automatically reviewed. A play like that can easily change the outcome of a game.

I don't know. Refs will only allow themselves to look so bad… and ditto for the NFL.

Plus, why should coaches have to challenge these kinds of things? And who wants to slow the pace of football down even MORE?

The solution, IMO, is to push the line on what is a "bad hit" back a little bit toward where it was a decade ago, because clearly it's crept way too far the other direction.

They shouldn't have to, but the reality is the game is moving very fast even for good refs.  Having it only as a challenge wouldn't slow the game down more.  It would allow coaches to challenge plays they feel really matter.

The 49ers call was way worse than this one. This is at least a hard hit with his head snapping back. I agree the above one was incorrect, and should not have been called, but the 49ers call decided the game and was orders of magnitude less severe of a hit. I doubt the 49ers were going to win anyways, but a touchdown ended the game.

They shouldn't, which was why I said they should automatically be reviewed in real-time. Just like TDs and turnovers. Would take an extra 5-10 seconds, and cause the game to last an extra minute or 2.

I mean if the ref has to go under the hood to review it, that will slow the game down.

That call could have changed the Steelers game too, and I disagree that it was "way worse" than this one. They're almost identical save for two or three inches.

Maybe.

Or the entire NFL could stop treating QBs like they're this guy:

This is true about all calls.  They shouldn't have to challenge anything ... it should be like college where ALL calls are reviewable in real time, and if something looks sketchy to the guys in New York, they buzz the umpire.

And they should be the ones making the call as well ... not the Ref under the hood - too much conflict of interest there.

They will still screw it up. Next week is MNF against Denver. Nuff said?

That about covers it.

If they win, I'll admit I was wrong about them in Nationally Televised games...

But for some reason, I'm not concerned about that...

It's all good, I'm happy when they win and not surprised when they lose. Any year they win more than they lose is a good year.

We're in the same boat, buddy. Although we haven't won more than we've lost in 7 years. Hoping this year we can win as much as we lose lol

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
