Maybe trash talk can work to inspire as well MJ.  From Geoffshackelford.com

MJ (Unsuccessfully) Heckled Ian Poulter At Medinah

I'm not sure this will bode well for Michael Jordan getting an inside-the-ropes badge at future Cups after fessing up to heckling Ian Poulter down the stretch in the 2012 Ryder Cup.
In the first of three "Road To The Ryder Cup" shows airing on NBC Sunday at 2:30 PM ET and Golf Channel Wednestday at 6:30 ET, Mark Rolfing sheds light on the little known battle between Poulter and Jordan. Tune in for the first episode of 'Road to the Ryder Cup' on NBC Sunday 8/31 at 2:30PM ET and Golf Channel Wednesday 9/3 at 6:30PM ET.

Saw that the other night ... Jordan did not heckle as much as psyched. He followed and stared at Poulter, who noticed and kept draining putts. There might have been a bump from MJ. MJ said something to the effect that you can't screw with this guy...

It's a good few minutes, hearing it from MJ, and then watching Poulter drain putts with his maniacal stare and eyes bulging out... a mad man ... even Poulter admitted it when he saw the tape.

There's a spoiler function on the toolbar. I've edited your post for you.

It seems to me that Poulter is one of those people that thrives on the pressure. If the spotlight is on him, he turns it up a notch. He loves attention, it doesn't phase him at all. It feeds him.

Best way of dealing with Poulter is to ignore him. Complete silence and occasional mild complement "jolly fine shot Mr Poulter" - it would drive him mad

We are talking about someone who announced he didn't like America nor its people. Why?

He reminds me of a not as good a version of John McEnroe, as he was always prepared to play the villian if he thought it could extract a performance improvement from him.

I enjoyed this post!  He is an attention seeker. Does he know Florida is part of the United States?

This topic first published in the Telegraph, UK.  Some comments liken MJ, and , by extension , his patron, Tom Watson as cheaters as only select few as permitted on course to talk to players.

Hard to accept that Tom Watson would condone golf  cheating of any sort.

Since two of his loves appear to be Ferraris and Clothing, I'd make some comments about those subjects -- his tartans are poor quality and loud, and Astons are all over Ferraris.

But not about his shorts, I guess? :) http://thesandtrap.com/products/ijp-ian-poulter-design-new-tech-golf-shorts/reviews/4759

I like all of his kit .... terrific quality. I buy it at deep discounts on ebay.

But if someone wanted to get him off his game ... they might try another form of gamesmanship other than MJ staring and bumping.

I am kind of surprised that there is not more discussion about this.  I agree with the linked column and think that was pretty low rent from MJ and anyone who would allow it to continue.

I'd love to have seen what reaction might be provoked if Europe were to wheel Lennox Lewis out of retirement and tell him to go and jab Bubba Watson in the chest. Bubba throws a hissy fit over cameramen getting inside the ropes, heaven knows how he'd react to a former heavyweight champion of the world

What would be interesting to know is whether Jordan has acted unilaterally, or had Davis Love tasked to do this? Either way they picked on just about the last European player they should have done. Poulter, for all his many faults, is the player most likely to respond with a performance to this kind of naked intimidation. It's difficult to think that America didn't get what they deserved under the circumstances (or at least Jordan's contribution to the team deserved anyway)
