  1. 1. In the past 10 years has technology helped you hit the ball farther?

    • Yes (10+ yards)
      17
    • Yes, but nothing crazy (5-10 yards)
      17
    • No, I hit it about the same
      8
    • No, I hit it shorter
      6

My answer is absolutely. The combination of video to help me learn if I am changing what I think I am changing (feel is not real) and Trackman to help me learn about hitting up on the ball. Both of these have added 1.5 clubs in the irons and +15 yards with the driver.

I voted that i hit it shorter now than before i started to take advantage of technology. Im much better now, but not onger. Lota of variables, though, including a lack of fitness and moving away from the sgi bomber type clubs.

I haven't been playing close to 10 years and am still on my first set of clubs but I would vote yes anyway.  I easily see a difference in driving distance just by changing balls.

Which ones do you play?

Why is there no option for crazy distance gain. I hit the ball 1300% what I used to

That would be the "Yes (10+ yards)" option.

And like I said earlier, if you haven't been playing for 10 years just go by this. The plastic clubs when you were 5 years old or whatever don't count ;-)

Yes for the guys that have been playing for less than 10 years, just go by when you started playing on a regular basis and/or the first set of clubs you had as a "baseline".

Usually a mid to lower end ball, quite a bit Maxfli U3 or U4 this summer and I'm trying a box of Bridgestone e7s now, generally a ball in the $16-25 range.  The only time I really notice a difference though is when I find a Pro V1 or some other expensive ball.

And speaking of the e7s, these things are a joke.  lol  They're supposed to be the "distance" ball I think but they go no further for me than any other $2 or less ball I've used.

So are you saying the pro V are longer than the Maxfli's or are they shorter?

They're noticeably longer.  I've played this local course a ton this summer and I've got used to landing areas for most of the holes.  When I use an expensive ball the drive will look the same but I'll walk out there and the ball will be 10-20 yards past my usual spot.

Ive never noticed that.  I played e5's a lot last year but I also had a few dozen pro v's (I got for gifts) the only difference I noticed was spin.  This year Ive been playing the B330's and thats all I notice as well is that they spin more than the e5's and e6's.  I switched to the 330 over the e series because I like how they feel when I putt them and I like how they have a bit more check when you chip or pitch them.  Ive never noticed a distance gain by any ball even the rock hard ones.

I voted..nothing crazy.

At 66 yrs old, and being that I can only go by what I did up until about 2003, and playing about 8 yrs, my distance has improved, as did my dispersion.

I would have to say that due to the lessons with Mike and Dana, and all the info here, plus all the time I spend working on my swing, and maybe the golf balls, as compared to the Balata balls I use to use, I've picked up more distance with my short irons, and mid irons. Long irons are iffy, as I can't get a an accurate distance with those at the range. I do know my driver is longer, but again no accurate distance, but I do know that I could not hit the fence before, and now I can about 70 % of the time, which would be about a 15 yd gain est.

BTW, my sqwing today, is nothing like it was back in the day. I have a slightly shorter back swing, but I make better contact now.

Man, do i ever wish my new, and expensive, turbulator has chopped 6 strokes off my HC.  But i can't say that and be honest.  Lying is not permitted in golf, nor on these pages.

Your last statement meaning...?  Are you saying someone is lying..?

I think the thread is asking for the correlation of new equipment versus distance. So, did it increase your distance?

About 10 Yards with driver & 15 yards with irons.

10 yards with driver & 7 yards with irons due to info on the interwebs that improved swing.

About 8 yards on irons due to upgrading from ca. 80's/90's clubs to ca. 2000 clubs which were about 3* stronger through the set - had to buy a gap wedge.

Maybe a few of yards gained for both from stepping up from cheap balls.

As I got older I stopped trying to hit every club the maximum distance I could and just started working on a consistent swing.  I watch my son hit a golf ball and he is hitting it farther than I did at his age...and he is still in the mode of hitting every club as far as he can.  It seems like you can swing harder with today's clubs because they are more forgiving but its still a matter of generating club head speed.  I have spent a lot of time hitting on a monitor and learning about how to effect launch and spin and impact on choices of shafts and golf balls.  If used properly I think you can make sure you get fitted with the proper equipment a lot better today.

I voted "Yes" but nothing crazy. I was going to ask today about this. My clubs well they could be considered old since they are still the same as in my signature. But when my cousin started to play he bought a Taylormade R1 driver. We went to the range and the difference between the 905R and the R1 were significant. The only measurement I have of my swing is from when I go to the simulators that were recently installed in a new place my driver swing speed is 120mph. So withe the 905R I got 299 yards and with the R1 316 yards. I didn't care too much to be honest. But in one of the last tournaments I played, they gave us as a gift a Taylormade 5 wood SLDR. I have been testing and these past days I went to the range, they have like those tracking devices I'm getting 265 yards. One went 277. Take that one away and the distance is pretty consistent! I hit 10 balls and leaving that one behind average is 263.5. I think something might be wrong but it's a club very easy to hit. That is more or less the same I hit my 906F 3 wood! I was thinking to take out my 21 degree hybrid and replace it with the 5 wood but if it is going that distance I might ditch the 3 wood and leave the hybrid. I still want to go and get fitted properly cause from the days I used to play everyday to date my physic has changed, I would like to believe I'm a lot story her - I have worked out for that - and with that I can get a better idea of what's happening. But it does makes me wonder if I'm leaving some distance in the bag due to the new technology and my clubs being old. :-\
