Yeah... good to keep in mind.  I did feel that Barney would know I was joking.

Well, since you started the thread you are opening your self up for criticism as well.

The childish part is you getting in the guys face.. Obviously he's not right in the head to say that.. The one credit I give you is that you were able to control your self enough to not hit him I guess, which some hot heads would do.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with being afraid or not..  why would I ever put my self in a situation where that is even a slight possibility?  Unless someone is a threat to my wife and kids, I'm not going to put my self in that situation.  Not very smart to give someone a chance to deck you don't you think?  what if he did and knocked you out cold?  How smart would you feel when you wake up 10 minutes later and the guy is gone?

Where do you come from?  The ghetto?  come on man.. I would rather someone insult me all day than getting touched.. sticks and stones and what not..  Yes, because there is no winning or losing when you get into a fight.. even if you win you are a loser (unless in special circumstances where fighting is the only way of survival or protection of family and so on)

You are right, I wouldn't deck anyone nor would I say what that guy said to you.. But, there is no need to puff your chest out on a golf forum.. I mean really come on.. do you know how silly this sounds to others?  Golfers aren't really well known for being these macho tough guys who pick fights with people and are willing to deck others (for stupid little reasons).. Pick up football, or find an MMA forum and they will welcome you in with open arms :)

Anyway, all is well that ends well.. please don't take any of the above posts of mine personally, and thankfully I am an expat so I don't have to worry about you chasing me down!  (joking.. please don't get upset)

There is nothing wrong with coming from the ghetto from a location stand point, but maintaining the ghetto mentality is where yes there is something wrong! Don't mean to hurt feelings, just expressing my true and honest opinion!

I think I would have been a little hacked about moving after I dropped my balls and possibly muttered something under my breath in frustration. When the guy said fu I probably would have stopped picking up my balls and verbally ridiculed him for saying it. Then tell him I am now staying in the stall and he can pack it up. I don't tolerate bullying or bs but I would not have gotten in his face. Too much of a threat to do that.

If you say to a F U to another man, that's just asking for trouble.  Most of us may have matured enough to not escalate but you all know that some men are not going to back down from that sort of challenge.  A few may even throw a punch first and ask for apology later.   The next time he F U someone, he'd better expect the worst.

This reminds me of a complete unrelated and equally uncomfortable topic......................while on a family vacation at WDW of all places!!!  I am with my wife and 2 small children.......

This was 10yrs ago so the exact memories are fuzzy....what I remember best is the extremely awkward moment!!!   It's lunchtime at WDW. it's peak summer,  and everybody is hot and bothered.  My family waits in A LONG line to order lunch at a counter-service restaurant inside the park.    When we finally proceed to the seating area, a full 1/3 of the seats are empty with a single person  "saving a table" as their family waits in line to order.   I am thinking to myself...this is BS because we were here first....and we have our food!!!

I finally find an empty table for 4.........we take it, but it has 2 chairs.  The table next to us clearly has taken them, but it's being "SAVED" by a person as their family waits in line for food orders.    The lady saving the table said these chairs were being saved, but I took them anyway.     I as politely as I could muster.....told her we were obviously here first because we have our food and you don't, and you clearly took 2 chairs from this table and apologized for inconveniencing her....but I was taking those 2 chairs!!  This is at WDW of all places...LOL   I made eye contact with the hubby once he came back, but nothing else was ever said........

I was hot and bothered....and I wanted my family to be able to sit down and eat!!   This was the most awkward moment ever at WDW!! LOL...it's my fault!!

 I commend you for doing something about peoples selfish behavior, it's fine if they don't want to stand in line and want to sit down but you don't have the right to take away seating from people who where in line before you and Disneyland and other parks should have rules or signs in these areas saying people who have food take priority to seating.

Bigger they are, harder they fall. Google Sven Struver getting knocked out. Crazy.

Lots of big dudes can't fight cuz they've never had to. In my experience, look out for the little guys.

They are also taught not to, because of the consequences of their natural strength. Why do you think the old gentle giant stereotype is so common?

The typical guy that can't control his temper will get arrested for assault one day. The really big guy that can't control his temper will end up getting arrested for manslaughter one day. When I became a teen, my parents went out of their way to drill that lesson into my head. Emphasizing that I had to control my temper, because I was so much physically bigger than my contemporaries I might seriously injure them (or worse) before I had even realized what I had done.

Plus, fighting is a no-win situation for a really big guy. Win the fight, and you are castigated for beating up someone smaller than you (even if you didn't start it). Lose the fight, and you are ridiculed for losing to a smaller opponent.

Sure, makes sense. Never really thought of it from that angle. My real point was, I've seen a lot more bad-ass smaller dudes than big dudes in my day, so be careful who you tangle with.

I have a nephew that is short. He had to develop a bit of a reputation simply to keep people from running over him.

He's not particularly a hot head, but some people assumed that because he was small he'd be easy to  push around (as I pointed out earlier, bullies always go after what they think is the easy target). By developing a more aggressive persona, he was able to reduce the amount he was bullied.

Not all of us come from privileged back grounds. I didnt. Physical altercations were a regular occurrence. Now I will do everything in my power to avoid such a situation. Should have laughed off the FU as uneducated rhetori. But please dont invade my personal space. 6" is too close

What do privileged backgrounds have to do with anything? I certainly didn't come from a privileged background, perhaps others in the thread have but I don't see how that has any bearing on what constitutes acting like a dick. Civilized behaviour is not dependant on financial status.

The question was asked a page ago if he grew up in the ghetto. That's why I referred to financial status. Correct. Bad behavior affects us all

The ghetto behavior is a mindset in the end that is perpetuated through self fulfilling prophecies, it is usually either encouraged by the parents or discouraged and the child will usually come to a point in his life where he will make a decision on either carrying the ghetto gene on or just letting it go as uncivilized behavior and actively working on changing his and others behaviors around him! It sounds from your response that you understand exactly what was meant by ghetto behavior, but using the word "privileged" gave the impression that normal respectable behavior is reserved for the well off, while there is no way that is what was meant, and nore is it really the case!

Since I have unlimited use of both practice facilities I use I probably would have just left the balls there and just got another and hopefully the guy would feel like a real ass for saying what he did.

When you grow up in a " lower class" hood, most, if not all you have is your pride. 99% of the time, it will involve a fight. My mom left my dad when I was 15, we moved to a very tough neighborhood, cuz the rent was low. My mom, 1 brother, and 2 sisters shared a 2 bedroom apt. we never had a phone, all we got was welfare, at that time I had no medical, or dental insurance. We had no car.

So, to give you a prospective from a "gehtto" side of things, someone even calls you a name, and it's on, If you don't respond, your labeled a Chicken, and from that day on, everyone and their brother will either call you names, beat the crap out of you, and take your lunch money, every day. One time a guy that lived next door to us, slapped my then 12 yr old brother, this guy was at least 30 yrs old.

I went and knocked on his door, no answer. The next day I saw him walking toward the apt building, asked why he slapped my brother, he said cuz he was mouthy toward him, so I said so you you just up and slapped him..? He says yup, I said well, try slapping me, I ended up breaking his jaw. After that day, he and his friends Never would even look at me or any of my family. Word gets around, and you get respect, that's how you survive.

I had been in more fights than I could count by the time I was 17, when I moved out. Was it right..? nope, but you did what you had to do, some guys never got over that mentality, some that were picked on, carried a hatred, I guess, and figure when they are grown, they can say FU and get away with it, sometimes you can, and other times, not so much.

So for 5 pages, you guys give the OP grief for gettin in the guys face, maybe, he did the guy a favor, by letting the dude know, you talk like that, there may be consequences. Not saying it's right, but that's the way things go.

So, what about all the fights at sporting events, where grown men fight in front of kids..? Now there's something to talk about... ;-)

    • 2 rounds this weekend, one at my home course and another course that I know well.   Played well for 3 of the 4 nines.    Ended up with an 80 and an 88.  Breaking it down by 9, it was 38, 42, 41, and a tough 47 where I somehow ended up with chipping/pitching shanks where I dropped at least 6 strokes on the last 6 holes.
    • Yikes, how time flies. Here we are, almost ten years later. After prioritizing family life and other things for a long time, I'm finally ready to play more golf. Grip: I came across some topics on grip and think my grip has been a bit too palmy, especially the left hand. I'm trying to get it more in the fingers and less diagonal. Setup: After a few weeks of playing, this realization came today after watching one of Erik's Covid videos. I've been standing too far from the ball, and that messes up so much. Moved closer on a short practice session and six holes today, and it felt great. It also felt familiar, so I've been there before. I went from chunking the bejesus out the wedges to much better contact. I love changes that involves no moving parts. Just a small correction on the setup and I'm hitting it better and is better suited for working on changes. I'm a few years late, but the Covid series has been very useful to get small details sorted. I've also had to revise ball position. The goal now is back of ball in the middle of the stance as the farthest back with wedges, and progressively moving forward the longer the clubs get. Haven't hit the driver yet, but inside left foot or at the toe I suppose. Full swing: It's not terrible. I noticed my hands were too low, so got that to work on. Weight forward. More of the same stuff from earlier days. Swing path is now out-in and I want the push-draw back. When I get some videos it'll be easier to tell. I've also had this idea that my tempo or flow/rhythm could improve. It's always felt rushed around the end of the backswing into the transition, where things don't line up as they should. A short pause as things settle before starting the downswing. Some lessons might be in order. Chipping and pitching: A 12-hole round this week demonstrated a severe need to practice, but also to figure out what the heck I’m trying to do. I stood over the ball with no idea of what I wanted to achieve. On a four meter chip! I was trying the locked wrists technique, which did not work at all. As usual when I need information, I look for something Erik has posted. I’ve seen the Quickie Pitching Video before, but if I got it back then, I’ve forgotten. After reviewing that topic, some other topic about chipping and most importantly, the videos on chip/pitch from his Covid series, I felt like I understood the concept. I love the idea of separating those two by what you are trying to achieve, not by distance or ball flight. With one method you use the leading edge to hit the ball first. With the other, you use the sole to slide it under the ball. I was surprised he said that he went for the pitch 90% of the time while playing. I’ve always been scared of that shot and been thinking I have to hit the ball first. Trying to slide the club under usually ended with a chunked or skulled shot. After practicing in the yard the last days I get it, and see why the pitching motion is more forgiving. It’s astounding how easy the concept and motion is. Kudos to Erik, David and anyone else involved for being an excellent students of the game and teachers. With those two videos, my short game improved leaps and bounds, without even practicing. Just getting the setup right and knowing what motions you are trying to do is a big part of improving. Soft hands and floaty swings feels so much better than a rigid “hinge and hold”, trying to fight gravity and momentum by squeezing the life out of the grip. At least how I took to understand the “hold” part. I also think the chipping motion will help in the full swing. Keeping pressure on the trigger finger to ensure the hands are leading the clubhead and not throwing it at the ball. I've also tried looking in front of the ball at times when chipping, which helps. That's something I've been doing on full swings for a long time, and can make a big difference on the ball flight. Question @iacas: You say in the videos that you want the ball somewhere near the middle of your stance, and that for pitching it's the same. On the videos you got a fairly narrow stance, where inside of the left foot is almost middle of the stance, but the ball looks more inside the left foot than middle of the stance. Is that caused by the filming angle or is the ball more towards the inside of the foot? I often hit chips and pitches from uphill and downhill lies, where a narrow stance would have me fall over. What is your thought process and setup for those shots? The lowpoint follows the upper body, around left armpit IIRC, so a ball position relative to the feet may not be in the same spot relative to the upper body with a wider stance. Practice: I've set up my nets at an indoors location where I can practice at home. I did a quick search on launch monitors (LM), but haven't decided on anything yet. We're probably buying a house in this area in the near future, so I may hold off a purchase until I see what I can get going there. At some point I'd love to get a proper setup with a LM that can be used as a simulator. Outdoors golf is not an option 4-6 months a year here, so having an indoors option would be great. That would also be a place to use the longer clubs. My nearest course is a shorter six hole course where I don't use anything longer than a 21º utility iron. To play longer 18 hole courses I have to drive 1-1.5 hours each way, which I will do now and then, but not regularly. The LM market has changed a lot since Trackman arrived, and more people are buying them for personal use, but it's still need to spend a lot of money for a decent one that can fi. track club path. The Mevo at £305 could perhaps be something to consider. Maybe they have lowered the price to get out units before a new model is launched? It is almost six years old, though perhaps modified since then. It's got limited data and obviously isn't an option as a simulator, but could provide some data when hitting into a net. I'd have to read more about it first. It has to be good enough to be useful for indoors practice. As long as I frequently hit balls on the range or course, I'll get feedback on any changes there.
    • I'm pretty good at picking targets with mid/long irons in hand, but yes lately I have been getting more aggressive than I should be, especially from 100-150. The 50-100 deficiency is mainly distance control, working on that mechanically with Evolvr, but the 100-150 is definitely a result of poor targets.  6,7,8 iron in my hand I have no problem aiming away from trouble/the flag, hitting a very committed shot to my target, but give me PW, GW, and some reason I think I need to go right at it (even though I know I shouldn't). Like here from my last round. 175 left on a short par 5 to a back right flag. Water short right and bunker long. Perfectly fine lie in sparse rough, between the jumper and downwind playing for about 10yds of help. I knew to not aim at the flag here, aimed 40 feet left of it, hit my 165 shot exactly where I was looking, easy 2 putt birdie.   But then there's this one. I had 120 left from the fairway to a semi-tucked front left flag. Not a ton of trouble around the green but the left and back rough does fall off steeper than short/right rough. For some reason I aimed right at this flag with my 120yd shot, hit it the exact proper distance but pulled it 5yds left and had a tough short sided chip. Did all I could to chip it to 8 feet and missed the putt for a bad bogey. Had I aimed directly at the middle of the green maybe 5yds right of the flag, a perfectly straight shot leaves me 20 feet tops for birdie and that same pulled shot that I hit would have left me very close to the hole.    So yeah I think the 50-100 is distance control and the 100-150 is absolutely picking better targets. I have good feels and am strong with distance control on those I just need to allow for a bigger dispersion.    This view is helpful. For the Under 25yds my proximity is almost double from the rough vs the fairway which reinforces that biggest weakness right now being inside 25yds from the rough. But then interestingly enough in the 25-50yds I'm almost equal proximity from fairway and rough, so it looks like I need to work on under 25yds from the rough and then 25-50 from the fairway. The bunker categories are only 1 attempt each so not worried about those.   Thanks as always for the insight, it's been helpful. I'm really liking ShotScope so far.
