Holy, McIlroy is a beast. No wonder he drives it so far. Ground forces. What is that, 300lbs?

Although, Justin will not have as many back and knee issues later in life!

Yikes, I would say that's closer to 350. Good for Rory - even in my college days when I was lifting quite a bit, I never flirted with those type of squat numbers.

Seriously.  My back and knees hurt just from looking at Rory's picture!

Any guesses as to the squats and correlation to his prodigious driving distance and accuracy?

You both lose credit for not using enough significant digits.

Ha! Kudos to both Rory and even more so to Justin for having a true sense of humor! They are two guys that would be fun to have a beer with.

Rory should look into doing deeper squats with a little less weight. There's good research to show that a 90 degree squat is pretty bad on the knees, a deeper bend is better.

I'm not sure if there's some new research I'm not aware of but when I was a personal trainer we discouraged anyone from going past parallel.

My physical therapist would agree with you!  I used to do a lot of squats and have started back into it with light weights.  I have OE in my knees and do a little above parallel.

Wonder if Rory deadlifts, too... there go the shoulders... but I'm sure he has a strength coach to prevent all that...

Probably even higher than that...it looks closer to 385-390...sounds like a ton of weight but it is surprisingly achievable for someone that regularly does leg lifts.  Most people just forget to do anything other than chest and biceps when they are in the gym ;-)

What's in the bag:
Taylormade R15
Callaway X2Hot pro 3W
Callaway X2Hot pro 20* hybrid
Mizuno JPX900 Tour 4-PW
Cleveland RTX 2.0 50,54, and 58 degree wedges
Taylormade White Smoke putter

If they're traditional plates its more like 500, but they look to be rubber so 265 is what I see. Not that it really matters.

The funniest part of it all for me was Rose's photo actually has the screw on bar collars attached.

Yeah, those are rubber, so with bar, maybe 300.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
