Oh ok haha @mvmac but would u look at that last swing I sent u?

Yep make sure to turn both feet out and turn the hips more. I would also recommend narrowing the feet a touch.

Good video for you to check out.

  golfrocks said:

what is the short turn causing? @iacas

Arms are getting a little lifty on the backswing. When the hips are restricted they stall on the backswing and the arms keep going. This can create a sequencing issue with the arms and the pivot. I prefer to see the arms stop close to when the backswing ends. Makes a few things easier on the downswing.

Man, c'mon… That's not even a sentence. I don't even know what you're trying to say.

a) You seem to be missing out on the thing that many here have told you already: start participating elsewhere. People don't like those who just take take take. Give a little too, man.

b) Who says you're across the line? Your camera angle leaves a lot to be desired: http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing .

Good luck.

http://youtu.be/E7BPiiYoKwY is that better camera angle? It still looks a little arcoss the line.

No, it's not great. Did you read the link on filming your swing?

Basically you want to camera to be centred more to your toe line than the target line.

Your toes should line up closer to the blue line not the red line. Easiest way is to lay an alignment stick or club down along your toes and then go position the camera so the stick appears dead centre and vertical in the frame. Having the camera so far off your toe line will distort a lot of the angles that you're trying to evaluate.

If you are across the line, it's because of the right elbow moving so far around you.

How about some real participation in other threads?

I don't think the amount that it's across the line is the issue. Notice how your hips stop turning about 3/4 of the way back and the arms keep going. Camera angle might be a little low but it seems like the club is traveling pretty far back, right elbow gets behind you, can create some timing issues.

I'd recommend doing this drill and putting a tee in both arm pits. Will feel like your pivot "carries" your arms, no run off with the arms. So overall you'll be turning the hips more with a shorter arm swing.

Work on this and participate in other threads, thanks.

Ok but I have been participating in other threads tho so I'm not sure why you guys keep saying when i think i am?

Not sure how to put this...it's one of those things you either "get" or you don't...

You see, there is a difference between actually participating and just going through the motions and firing off a comment somewhere and then rushing back here to ask another question or push for more free advice.

The amount of time/posts I spend in my "My Swing" thread compared to the amount of time/posts I spend elsewhere on the site is probably around 5% My Swing and 95% elsewhere in the community and I'm likely overestimating the My Swing portion by a good amount. If all you want is swing advice and instruction and you don't really have any true interest in being a part of the larger community and all it offers than I strongly recommend you pony up some $$$ and join Evolvr . The guys who give out free pointers here (Mike and Erik among others) are available "for hire" through Evolvr. Then you can ask all the questions you want and get great advice and instruction that will get that elbow back under control. And to be honest, the prices they charge for EVOLVR are so good it practically is free.

To help put this in perspective, I have been a member for 3+ years, I am both a supporter and a Forum Leader. Over the years I have received tons of free tips and advice specific to my swing, not to mention the mountains of free information that isn't necessarily specific to my swing. But when I want to do some serious work on my swing I don't expect them to devote all their FREE TIME to me, I buy a few months time on EVOLVR, get the lessons I need to work on and then get to work.

So if I, with 3 years of participation, paying an annual donation to help run the site (supporter) and as an active Forum Leader don't expect Mike and Erik to be at my beck and call like they're on some kind of retainer, where the heck do you get the idea that you can do that?

I think you have probably ran the well dry on the freebies.

PS: I just scrolled back through this entire thread and I see the equivalent of at least 3 high quality lessons in here already. You shouldn't be asking for more, you should be working your ass off.

PPS: Fix your camera position.

i too am a bit annoyed, but youre young and most youngsters nowadays dont listen/read very well.  ill give it a shot.

1) lay the club down and then situate the camera so that the club is dead center of the view, perpendicular to the bottom of the frame.  then set up with your toes on the club.

2) feel the top of your right biceps staying on your upper ribcage throughout the backswing.  stop your arms/backswing when your shoulders stop rotating.

As I'm not exactly qualified to give swing advice, I can give you some filming advice.

- Read this thread ( http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing ) and read it again. It will tell you all you need to know about camera angles (though the toe line being centered improved on this swing, still a little bit on the left), as well as what height the camera should be set up at. It also helps if you can provide a slowed down version of the swing (even if it is a bit choppy filming with a normal camera, it still lets you pause to catch individual frames) so that people can more easily see your swing at specific locations.

- I would recommend that you wear shoes when making swings. I've noticed a significant difference in the way that I swing when I wear shoes versus when I don't, and I suspect that many are the same way

- Perhaps face the net setup away from the fairly new truck? I'd hate for a golf ball to slip through the net when you're diligently working on things that take a while to change (hint: it will probably take longer than just today to fix. I've been working on my right heel for the last three to five weeks). I just would hate to see a future video where that pretty Ford (it is a 2009 F-150, right?) has a hole in the back window because the golf ball found an opening.

- Practice, practice, practice. If you're still making a conscious effort to change something, you're nowhere near finished working on it. Exaggerate, repeat in slow motion, and make sure that you are making every swing count. Notice how in this video demonstrating practice, iacas only hit 4 balls in six minutes? I guarantee you that he was more focused on changing something in his swing that he was on pounding balls into a net.

    • Day 3 (August 13).  4' putting drill;  this is a modified version of the drill from LSW for short putting.   For context, in 2025, my strokes lost putting is more than 2 per round compared to the 15 handicap baseline, just on putts under 10'.  So that's a glaring weakness I think.  Anyway, so I set up 12 markers around a hole like a clockface, all coins, all face up.  I putt from each in turn, if I make it, I flip a heads over (or pick up if it's tails).  This means I have to make 24 putts eventually, ideally quickly.  It took me 38 attempts to do this, although 9 of the 12 coins were picked up either in the first or second go around.   Anyway, the baseline for a "90-golfer" (per Broadie description) is 37 attempts, so that's pretty good, but I'll keep trying to improve.  For anyone thinking about this, the number would be 30 for an average scratch player.   This was done on a real green at a nearby course's practice area.
    • Day 18: a little under the weather, so just some mirror work while watching TV.
    • That's not the right way to look at it, because you're not going to have a rating of 55 or something for even a 6500-yard par 72. There's a minimum rating (depending on the length), and then +s and -s to that. If a course has a bunch of +s and -s that even out, that doesn't mean the course rating is 100% the length. And what kind of math would it be if the course rating was lower than the formula: 103% length? 🙂
