For some reason this made me chuckle.  "My first TV hockey memory was the 1980 Olympics.  My favorite team is Italy."

I wouldn't expect Barney to be able to follow such complex thought patterns. :smartass:

So I guess both golfers affected my early interest in the game.  Nicklaus and the 86 Masters for obvious reasons.  Curtis won a couple US Opens in a row right when I started playing, and I had two Nike golf shirts just like the ones he wore.  I was soooo cool back then.

Lol ... It was just a nice bit of misdirection on your part. ;) I never answered the OP: no, I did not really have any golfer help get me interested in the game ... I was 11 or 12 and got interested because my dad bought me a beginners set and started taking me to the range. I spent a lot of those early years playing 9 holes with my mom too. :)

I am somewhat jealous of the people who said that they started by playing with their dad (or mom). My mom never played, and when my brothers and I got my dad to try the game, I heard words come out of my dad's mouth that I never heard before. To be fair my dad was a very good athlete who played fast pitch softball into his 50's. But, he just did not invest any time into golfing. (He just couldn't figure out how to properly hit a ball that wasn't moving.)

As a father, I was able to give a little back to my younger daughter, Kelly, who became interested in golf at an early age, began with group lessons and eventually took several years of private lessons. She also caddied for six years, lettered for 4 years in high school, and won a high school championship her senior year. From day one I was her mentor and chief adviser, and it is no coincidence that our swings are very similar.

For me it was Greg Norman. I watched the British Open in 86 and decided I wanted to try golf. I then told my mom I wanted to play and my aunt had a boyfriend who was a serious golfer. He took me out to play and I loved it. Been hooked ever since.

No one, I first started when I was 8 years old and back then 1973 Jack was the dominate player along with Trevino and Weiskopf but I was too young to pay any real attention.
