Those who could be bothered showing up, that is. Which is why guys like Appleby and Ogilvy do well there. It's an atmosphere free zone and a cashfest.

The most meaningless, boring event of the year. Looks awful on TV.

Do you live in a box?  The course is STUNNING on TV. There be Whales!  Surf waves galore. They have massive canyons and elevation changes.  They show sweeping vistas on many holes.  Even a curmudgeon like you Shorty can appreciate the beauty of Hawaii.

Probably referring to the lack of spectators and general vibe that it lacks importance. There were some holes that just had a few people standing around. I watched a bit but the SA Open is more interesting IMO.

Dude lives in Australia though. I can see where the beauty would be less appreciated by somebody who lives sonewhere similar, as opposed to somebody who lives in Boston or Montreal or Erie or Owonoconowonocowonoconoconoc.

Just heard Bubba apologize to his caddy for a bad swing (one of many so far) on the front nine.

34 out of the 38 qualifiers showed up for the event. Kaymer, Rory, Rose and Scott are the no-shows.

And there's your reason as to why it feels a bit flat - three of the majors aren't represented, whilst Rose (6) and Scott (3) are big fish too. I guess you also have the fact that other big guns - Sergio, Furyk, Stenson, Spieth, Fowler - didn't get a PGA win.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's in the bag: Callaway X2 Hot Driver, Titleist 915F 3 wood, X2 Hot 3 Hybrid, 3, 5-AW Apex Pro irons, 54*, 58* Cleveland RTX, Odyssey Versa 1 Putter

One tournament that is played in Sydney is right next to the highway near the airport.

Not unlike a certain tournament at a place called Augusta National.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Hate to get involved in this back and forth, but I have never heard a plane flyover during the Masters.

I think the TV directors do a great job of keeping what is outside these courses from being seen.  The Sydney course is a good example and so is Augusta.  Kapalua on the other hand, is just surrounded by beauty.

Lack of spectators can have an upside to it. Buddy of mine was able to walk 18 with Tiger's pairing many years back. Was able to stand within 10 yards of him for many shots.

Can't believe the complaints about the course. The Plantation Course at Kapalua is one of the most visually stunning tracks I have ever played. For scenery alone I put it on a par with Old Head which I have as my #1 visually stunning track in Ireland.

The experience is a little different at Old Head as it is sort of surreal just getting there given how far off the beaten path it is, and when you arrive and see the majesty of that place it sort of just takes your breath away. Like certain places in Hawaii, but different. Reminds you or how insanely beautiful the earth can be.

Couple questions about this tourney. 1) Why is it being played Fri-Mon? (Also, did they do it like this last year, year before?) and B) since when does the PGA TOUR re-group pairings after Round 1?

Been watching this tourney for years and I don't recall Monday finishes before, but I also don't recall it ending on Jan. 12th either. Maybe they wanted to avoid the NFL playoffs.

Yeah, but wouldn't this really be the exception to the rule that they play slow? You will always find exceptions, but the people who believe that pros are generally slow would be right don't you agree? I guess my question is why was he playing by himself though?

I think the event in Boston that's played over one of the three day weekends in summer has a Monday finish, or it has on more than one occasion.

For re-grouping, I think one of the reasons that they have the first two days be the same group but swap mornings and afternoons is so that over the two days before the cut line, they get different conditions.   Such as the greens dry out later in the day, so it varies the conditions somewhat.   Since there are only 30-ish players in the field here, maybe they felt they didn't have to do that.

    • Awesome, thank you very much. I ended up giving them a call and you are right. Got to try out some different clubs, the first suggestion was the Wilson Staff Launch Pad irons I believe, the hybrid irons. Personally I wasn't liking them all too much, however they were much better than the old '74 MacGregor blades I've been playing. Then I tried a couple others, I forget what the one was but the one I ended up liking the best was the Cobra Aerojet irons. Overall feel and performance was the best for me on these, I also preferred the appearance and sound of these. Bit the bullet.

    • Live Updates from the range! Open the club face at address, and trust that you’re gonna be able to get the face in a good position at impact. I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
