Not sure how you come to the conclusion I think his post was legit from a response that mentions distorted reality and dreaming.

If it were true, why would he not respond to the three simple questions? Why would you not say "I play for Methodist, my name is _______, I broke the course record at the State Am Qualifier"

AND THEN I would say hell yes you have a shot to play on the PGA Tour that is awesome. Not bashing by any means. If he wants me to give him an honest assessment of his chances I will need honest information. Is that fair?

Seriously information didn't bring about civility in Phillyk's threads. He posted details about verifiable tournament scores, poor scores he was lamenting, and you went as far as to imply his index was bogus. When similar examples were offered as evidence supporting him it still didn't sway you. Was that an example of you being fair?

If this agitates you I don't apologize. Just food for thought to consider taking the high road next time you want to beat someone down simply because you feel their real or imagined golf accomplishments somehow infringe on your own.

Yes sir.

There was no other evidence sir. He had no other tournament rounds. Why are we talking about that thread inside this thread? It doesn't bother me, I have no problem with asking someone to verify information. I don't trust everyone who I meet. Prove to me you are who you say you are and I will be on board and think of you as an honest person. Being unable to prove your side of the story proves that you are someone who is full of it.

What is so funny are the little "cliques" on this website. While your group has driven away plenty of possible long-term members, I have no shame in my game. Tell me who you are and let me follow your progress.

@Phil McGleno still waiting on some swing thoughts from you man. I really wanted you to tear up my swing. I may be the ass in the forum but at least I am honest.

All I'm saying is that leg strength, upper body strength, and core strength that hockey demands, and the hand-eye thing help a lot in golf. My diminutive nephew hit the only 300 yard drive I have ever seen in person. Right on the apron of the green a tee shot. He was playing from the shorter tees to humor me. He had a little tail wind, but he hits it 270 regularly, as I said, after only playing for a few months, but I doubt he could sniff the 70s from the back tees.  The length thing is not that amazing. Did anybody see Tim Tebow crush that 343 yard drive on Morning Drive? Could he play on the tour? I rather doubt it.  I think hockey is much closer to golf than baseball. You have a kid who has been hitting a ball or a puck off the ground with a stick from the time he was three, he is going to have developed some neurons in that department.

But it's a golf forum.

Why not just respond to every single threat with a dismissive "First World Problem" retort.

If a 14 year old gets on here saying he will break par in 2 months, but currently can't break 100, or says they have no back up plan, and there fore HAVE to succeed, you can humour them to a point.

Tough love isn't about hurting feelings or being mean.

Those types disrespect our game and clearly don't appreciate good golf. This is why Dan is such a tool. He is totally focused on magazine covers and interviews. He is seeing himself as a bit of a celebrity, but reality will bite.

He won't make the tour, but Dan will write a book on his experiences and do the talk show circuit. He'll go on Oprah and Ellen. His book will become a NY Times bestseller. He's positioning himself to land on his feet.

You can call them cliques all you want. I think they are just people who get along and are online friends and who seem to agree on world views or something. They are generally likeable people who do not attack others like you do even when asked to stop by other people. You were relentless and it was the first impression you made. Do not care for your implication about my lack of honesty either. Have a good day.

FWIW I only thought your post was a little too straight to the point (which isn't necessarily bad) and if you had taken his post with a little more humor it won't be a bad thing.

dsmythe posted on April 1st!! Hmmmm

He's probably laughing his butt off.   I suspect it is one of the current or previous TST members.

Here's what my post on April 1st may have been like:

I am 53 year old man with one eye lost in a bar brawl 20 years ago.  I started playing golf 5 years ago and HI is at 12 currently.  I plan to quit my meager job and go full time on playing golf to give it a shot at the Championship tour.   I normally succeed in whatever I try.   So, why not golf?   Put a small ball in a large cup using high tech sticks.   It's a simple game.   Anyway, if I sell my house, and hire personal golf instructor and trainer, and practice 8 hours a day, can I make it?   No is not a viable opinion since I am betting my whole life's saving (house equity) on this.  Oh, I can drive 300 yards on downhill, downwind, and by hitting cart path on purpose.   I.e, I got the length, and just need some adjustment to make it repeatable.

I always get a big kick out of people who say they played hockey, or football or baseball and therefore are going to be great golfers. It means nothing. Yea, Tony Romo is scratch, but the the links are filled with pro ballers who can't break 100. Bo Jackson is a 6, so that's all you need to know about great athletes suddenly making the switch and getting to scratch. Wayne Gretzky is a 10. I think he played D3 hockey, or maybe he was even a little bit better than that.

Agreed.

There are so many threads here where people claim massive distance off the tee and qualify it with the inane "But I used to play baseball", as if that is an explanation for the seemingly impossible.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

"Yeah, well, I used to race motorcycles."

If there's any correlation between success in two different sports, it may be that athletes who reach a high level in one sport might better understand the importance of learning proper mechanics, proper practice, and good coaching - that and they are just better athletes. And pros or ex-pros possibly have more time and money to learn golf than the average person. Doesn't mean that because I was "pretty good" at a sport in high school, I will automatically be any good at golf.

I agree, for every example of a pro becoming good at golf, there are likely many times more who suck at it. It would be interesting to see some statistics, if they exist, on how that group stacks up against the average person.

Given all the sucky swings I've seen from elite pro athletes in pro am's and those exhibition tournaments I say no. Every year at Pebble you see the featured analysis segments detailing pro so and so and they look like your average weekend 20 handicap guy.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
