Rory already draws. Was at Arnie's tourney and he had a throng following him just for a practice round.  Meanwhile three of us followed Jason Day for 18 holes - no fanfare. What does that say about your everyday golf fan?

I do not know-How about you tell us Rick? Rory does not draw anywhere near like Tiger still does.

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

Rooting, in Australia, is something quite different!  Correct, @Shorty ?

Quite so

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Rory does not draw anywhere near like Tiger still does.

Why the attitude? I don't believe I posted that he did. I posted that he had a large following, more so than many of the top ten players in the field.

It tells us that your everyday golf fan finds Rory more electrifying.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

The thing about pro golf is that, unless you know the players, it's generally tough to avoid the bandwagon effect. I first heard of Anthony Kim when he finished in second place to get his tour card (or to save some stages of Q-school, I forget the details). I didn't really know much about Tiger or Phil until I saw them in video games. It's not like team sports where you can have been rooting for the same laundry for generations.

That's likely the case. I think the fringe fans (or non-golfer) fans who only watch Sportscenter follow the couple of players they've seen  or may have heard about- not knowing that the tour is filled with a lot of great players, some up-and-comers who will win majors in the next couple of years -

I always enjoy the time I watched Rory as an 18 yr old practicing after missing the cut in Munich - it was on a Saturday. No one knew who the hell he was at the time.  Curly headed kid practicing his short game.  Colin got the attention back then.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
