It's nuts how true this is.  Been working with @mvmac and Dana for a few weeks now to fix a way inside backswing.  Screwing around with the new net this afternoon and saw that I was still doing it, even though I "felt" like I was keeping the club (and my hands) perfectly in front of me.  Figured, ok let's see what happens when I feel like I'm taking it outside, or rather, almost "pushing" the club towards the target line.  Felt like I was almost across the target line, buuuuut...obviously not.  Right on plane.

I went through the exact same change/feeling about 2 months ago. I was shocked how much of a different feel it took to make the visible change necessary.

Right? I feel like my left arm and the club are on the opposite side of the target line in that pic. Going to take a ton of work to change the downswing...

Golf is hard

Thanks for that Mike, makes us hackers feel better when someone of your skill says its hard, however, as an instructor shouldnt you be re wording it and saying its  "challenging but worthwhile" as that sounds more motivational? :-D "

I guess that's why we exaggerate motions, haha.

I've historically always brought the club back too far on the backswing and even though I feel like I don't go back that far, when I look at it on video, I go back.

Only by really feeling as though I shorten it does it actually shorten.

how long is your wing span vs how tall you are? my club head would get way behind me, I had a pro take my measurements found out I'm 5,9 with a 6'3 arms. we made some adjustments to my set up, then we or I would say I worked hard on the take away, come to find that when I take the club head back correct it goes outside the target line and I make almost perfect contact and gained distance. with what you have learned your body may be showing you your golf swing. I have shot 82. 84. 84. 92. 89. since I made these changes. last couple of years I was lucky to score a 89. and my short game sucks. my guess would be your working on not coming over the top. and you found a way to get the club to go outside to in. congrats, and stick with it,

    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
    • Day 543, April 27, 2024 Practiced for about an hour today. Almost all slow, with plenty of rehearsals.
