I've noticed a disturbing issue with my Ping s55 irons (which I've loved using so far for just under a year), in that it looks like there is an issue with the laminate on the face of my 6-iron. Through research online I've found the problem often starts with something that looks like a bubble or wrinkle in the toe (as the pictures show below is occurring), but I'm not sure how to go about this. Does PING do replacements for this issue, especially on clubs less than a year old? I'm also not sure that I want a mismatched set (in terms of serial numbers) if I ever want to sell these clubs in the future.

These are pictures of the face of my six iron, where the second one shows it better. Does anyone have experience with this problem, and information on how they got it resolved?

@Pretzel I had this happen on my i20s...twice.  The second time I believe it may have been after a year of owning them. It has not happened on my s55 irons yet.  Just call ping and they will replace it.

Also see this thread . (edit: same link as Drew's below)

First I've heard it happen with the S55 irons, yes PING will replace the club. Call or email them, give them the serial number and pics. The new club will come with the same serial number.

Have you heard of this happening to the Glide wedges? I was looking to get some wedges in the near future. I want to pick up the glides but if they have this problem I'll look elsewhere.

Several of my i20 irons show this "problem", but for me it's not an issue. It does not seem to affect ball flight.

Yeah it's a cosmetic things, won't effect your shots.

No I haven't, this problem usually comes after the clubs have been used for a while. It's also not something that's inevitable, won't happen to everyone. Not sure if it makes a difference but the wedges are made from different material than the irons.

I can't believe this @Pretzel but it is happening to my irons as well. This is the third time it has happened to me and I am done with ping at this point.

Yeah, Ping should really find a permanent fix for this problem or it's going to hurt the brand.

It is not really a laminate, is it?  Don't they just electroplate the top layer on?  Most other iron have a chrome plating.

I saw this as I got to work this morning. About 9 hours after I ordered their wedges. Do you use some type of cleaner on them?

Agreed.  I have no idea why they would still be using this process.

I just use a wet towel to clean them.

Did you keep them in your garage where they would be getting cold and hot all the time?

Sure I have them in my garage, I have them in my car when I play. The point is if I have to baby the set and not ever let them get hot or cold, why would I want them?

I completely agree I was just wondering if going from cold we get here in winter and the hot humid Temps in summer had something to do with the problem. It's bull that you should even have to deal with it. It's happening to my buddies G20's as well.

First I've heard of G20 problems. I'll have to ask my brother in laws how their G15 irons are holding up.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
