The two party system is indeed bad.  Same with career politicians and no term limits for members of Congress.

I don't really blame wealthy people for having an advantage in political races though.  If all it takes to get someone's vote is a TV ad then I just don't even know what to say to that other than there are a lot of stupid people out there.

The issue is that wealthy people have more time to spare as well and tend to go into Philanthropy.

The founding members of congress were pretty much the wealthiest people in the country at the time. It's not like it's some sort of bad thing.

I just wish someone who isn't such a a$$-clown like Trump would run for president.

I am with you on the above.  It's sad, ain't it?   Our leading (per poll numbers) choices are Hillary & Trump today.   At least, Trump gives us something to laugh and talk about.   I can't stand Hillary's cookie cutter speeches, and wish wash ways.   I don't know if  Super Pact stuff was approved during Obama administration.   If it was, shame on Obama.

No, shame on the Supreme Court. It was the Citizens United case that enforced the current reality.

About 10 years ago I realized we're never going to get the most qualified people in the country to run for president.  Those people will stay in the private sector where they can make way more money and put up with way less bullshit.

If you see someone running for president you can rest assured they're some sort of narcissist, liar, fanatic, addict, or criminal.

I don't think the problems that are implied by "career politicians" would be helped by term limits. That would only discourage people committed to public service out of entering politics, while encouraging the ones who are out to enrich themselves to be more brazen in their bilking while they can. Plus, our legislators would perpetually inexperienced at writing laws, and those duties would be further relegated to outside interests.

Here I said I wasn't going to talk politics anymore.  Aaargh, the pull is strong.  I can see the points in your statement and they do make sense. I do still agree that term limits would be beneficial.  Our Founding Fathers in general did not foresee people entering politics for a career.  They saw it as a civic duty, and the idea was to use their knowledge and experience to help a young nation.  There is plenty of case law, a supreme court, etc to help guide and steer politicians.  The conflict of interest arises when career politicians are allowed to be career politicians as in when have you ever seen them vote for a decrease in pay for themselves?  Why did they legislate in a way that exempts them from ACA?  Why when the rest of our nation as far as private industry is concerned has greatly moved away from a pension plan do we continue to pay a perpetual pension for many federal politicians?  Especially when these politicians are swimming in money as was not really the case when people such as John Adams were in office and paying for things out of their pockets.

Its like a restaurant that's gone bad because the chefs have all stayed.  Yes, the chicken bellagio was awesome....20 years ago.  We need new ideas, new people to stimulate things with some guidance.  Term limits for positions, you can be a governor, you can be a senator, you can be a congressman and you can be a us senator.  you cannot climb the ladder only to perch your fat arse there for eternity building a fife dome that serves you and your constituents who bought and paid for you's special interests.

This thread isn't supposed to be for politics but for Trump's POTUS candidacy which I initially took it as a joke. :-) But I understand that one can't separate POTUS candidacy from politics even if it is Trump's.   Mistakenly, I assumed this is going to be a bi-partisan thread of making fun of Trump and his candidacy.  Little did I know a whopping 20+ % of Republicans would believe Trump would make a reasonable POTUS.

I don't follow the guy's personal life at all so I'll take your word for it.  If he dumped the women first instead of cheating on them then I have no problem with that.  I also don't really care how many times he has been married since I think marriage is mostly a joke anyway.

My concern is Bill walked all over her and she didn't stand up for herself.  I think that is simply unacceptable in a leader.  I'm guessing she stayed with him for political gain more than anything actually but that's not any better than being spineless.  Who would she be in 2015 as the divorced wife of a former president?  Yeah, a nobody.

Any way you look at it her character is  imo.

If you think marriage is a joke than it becomes irrelevant that Bill was cheating on Hillary. or she put up with it.

" Who would she be in 2015 as the divorced wife of a former president?  Yeah, a nobody." she does have a law degree, so she very well could be in the same spot she is right now.

or can we not fathom that an educated women is capable to Achievement without riding the coat tails of her husband?

Anyway, totally off topic here but reading through some of these forums whenever people start talking about how far they hit their clubs (especially their drivers) it makes me think of the SNL skit "How Much Ya Bench?".  "Yeahrr, there Jimmy, uhh tanks for callin in and thats all well and good and all that you played Torey Pines and Pebble Beach in one weekend but ahh, what we really want to know is eh...How much ya benchin that new Taylormade Rocket Burner Driver?"  I bring this up here only because I think we should vote for a new forum thread where we can put all of those types of posts from newbies (I know, I know I am a newbie) who come on here with ten posts or less talkin about how far they hit their clubs.

Actually, not totally off topic.  To me, Trump's candidacy and subsequent rhetoric is very close to a newbie coming to this forum with his 1st 10 posts being about his 330 yard drive average and defending it.  Big talks but nothing to back them up.

So one can only be deceived and lied to if they're married?  Comon' man, what you're suggesting is completely silly.

I don't know where she would be if she dumped her husband 20 years ago but seeing as how she doesn't appear to bring anything fresh (other than simply being a female) to the race I find it hard to believe we'd be talking about her as the next potential president.

As far as riding coattails...  I am actually really curious to see how a woman would handle being president.  But we certainly don't need to rush and pick a sub-par one like Hillary, or that hillbilly Palin.  lol  And ironically I think some of my opposition to her is precisely because of her name.  I do not understand how we as a country occasionally get sucked into thinking it's OK, or even wise, to elect second or third generations of these families (took 50 years to get rid of these Kennedy clowns).  We've got 400 million people in this country, I'm pretty sure we can find quality candidates not named Bush or Clinton.

Actually Bill did a really good job as president. From what I hear Jeb Bush is much better than either the dad or Jr.

I actually liked Bush SR. Made the right choice in raising taxes, and was a big part of the reason why economically the 90s were strong. At least from my point of view.

Eh, I dunno that seems like an absolute worse case scenario.

I'm not really concerned about the guy who is a senator for 8 or 10 years, it's the people like Strom Thurmond or Robert Byrd who need to be shown the door.
