My swing doesn't look all that great either, but I agree that his swing looks really bad. However, that doesn't mean he can't teach the essentials to a student. In fact, the fact that his swing is so awful might attract more people to learn from him, because if he can do it then anyone can do it?

If you know the essentials to the swing, and knew your short comings, would you post your swing exhibiting them to your potential students?
Luckily, I'm not an instructor, so I don't need to decide. Have you seen his student's swings?

If I had a chance to take lessons from Harmon or Haney I would not really care what their swing looks like. I once had an instructor that would spend way too much of the time I was paying for showing me what he could do. If we were working with a 6 iron he would take my 6i and set up and hit 10 balls in a row without saying anything. Yes, I know you can hit a 6 farther than I can hit my driver, but that really doesn't help me. I would rather have a good teacher than a good golfer when it comes to a golf instructor. It's the same with most sports. The brilliant coaches that are getting the most out of the athletes could not do themselves what they are teaching. I am certainly not saying that this guy is a good golf instructor, but the fact that he has a questionable swing doesn't automatically make him a bad golf instructor either. Respectfully,

Good Point.

From what I have heard, he has not had any yet. I don't know for sure.

Respectfully,

I agree, that was my point as well.  I doubt Harvey Penick had a better swing than Ben Hogan, but that didn't stop Hogan from going to Penick for advice.

I understand where others are coming from about the whole "do as I say not as I do" theory but I don't think where I am at with the knowledge of the game let alone the 5 keys, I could feel confident that he could help. He doesn't know how analytical I am about the golf game either so you can't fault him for the sale...

One guy in our area was able to take early retirement, and now gives a few golf lessons a week at a local driving range. He has an 8 HDCP, and a crisp, consistent swing. He does not have a PGA certification, and plays in local amateur tournaments.

Is he technically a pro, or does he have to make so many $$ to cross that line?

Pretty sure if he takes any money it affects amateur status according to @iacas previous post but I may be wrong.

He is a pro, and should not be allowed to play in local amateur events.

Of course, I'm assuming he gets paid for the golf lessons.

Here's the deal about showing golf swings. The pro I last went to didn't show me videos of his golf swing. He showed me videos of his students' golf swings. Before and After. I also happened to know a few of them and they were playing in single digits now. I really don't know what his swing looks like.

You taking lessons from him is a very different discussion from him just offering lessons.  At an 11.7 you're a fairly accomplished golfer and should seek out an instructor who you feel can help you get down into single digits.   There are likely a number of pro's you'd choose not to take lessons from for a various number of reasons.  That doesn't mean he isn't a good instructor and might be great for someone just starting out, or a high handicapper,

That video just shows his setup, do you have one of his full swing?

This video? He swings the club in it…

Very strange but it doesn't show the swing for me. Just a few seconds of his setup. maybe because i'm using adblock? Weird.

edit: 9th try is a charm, it finally worked. What a strange swing. No way I'd take a lesson from him.

Well he is not long off the tee and has two caps listed at the club, one says 2.9 and another is 3.9. He plays off the blacks.

I haven't stayed quite current with this thread, but this line got me right from the start.  It's against the USGA rules to keep two handicaps.  I wouldn't trust they guy.

It appears that he has two caps listed and one that is 2.9 has scores is from last season. The one that has new rounds from 2015 is the 3.9. Probably a mistake by the club? He has 13, 18 hole rounds before the 6-15 post date. Lowest round on either cap was 73.
