I'm surprised the southern states aren't higher. They can golf all year for the most part.

North Carolina seems to be pretty golf oriented. Waiting to see where we fall into place.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

I'd kill for a round of golf in Southern Alaska this weekend. If they have a course up there.

I'm gonna guess, SC, FL, NY, MI and CA are top 5.

Not sure about NY and MI being northern courses.  But I didn't expect Alabama with the RTJ courses to be that high either.  I think NC will be there.

The thing is and this is a grievance I have with all these lists and w/all golf magazines in general, that these insidery people make up, the thing is, private courses are considered. I guess if you're a golf nut, you'll find a way to play privates, but I think the rankings would change if just considering public courses.

And hey, the best courses lists from these magazines change about as much as the faces of Mount Rushmore.   Bleh.

Would hope to see Texas in the top five and really surprised that Louisiana is that high. Louisiana has great courses and good enough weather to play most of the year and he says their avidness is very low which I think is stupid. My whole family is from there and we know plenty of golfers hmmmmmmmm

We do miss out on a lot of the golf experience here in Vermont. No crowds to speak of. No calling ahead for tee times. No waiting at backups from hole to hole. It sucks.

Mad props to Ohio which is the only non-southern state in the top 5 :)

Winter can't slow us down ;)

I think Ohio needs to be #1 with that logic. If we are #5, and we get winter, then our effective golfing score must be higher than those states that can golf year round.

Yeah, two reasons why a lot of pga players live in FL... one of them is good golf.

Four of the top five have year round golf.  Although, for me AZ, SC and FL would be tough in the summer because of the heat (health issue).

Another silly list created from a set of nebulous parameters.  Does anyone really care that "their" state is less "golfie" than another?  I think I will sleep just fine tonight even though "Travelin' Joe" rates my state low on the totem pole.

As a knowledgeable golfer that has played for many years, I always knew Ohio was a top5 golf state.  With that said, I was a bit surprised it made the list at #5!!  I expected more non-deserving southern states to get puffed-up rankings due to their more golf favorable southerly climates.   The quantity and quality of golf in Ohio is quite impressive, not to mention tournament history, etc, etc, etc...

It's hard to argue against the top4 on the list.   I would have predicted those states before even looking at the list.
