Ok, going to get a little snarky here: wtf is Cink doing with a JVC TV logo front and center on his Taylor Made cap?? That looks ridiculous. I'm all for these guys makin a buck but jeez, have some self respect. One of the reasons I'm not a Furyk fan, he's a walking billboard and would promote The Plague if he got paid. And yes, I agree, Zinger is far and away the best analyst in the game today. Add On: sorry, gettin a little chatty cuz I'm sitting at my place alone drinking whiskey, no one to vent my thoughts to. Two more things and I'll leave you alone: 1. Love seeing Old Tom's great-great-grandaughter watching the festivities from her window above Old Tom's shop. Don't remember that in St. Andrews Opens of the past but it's kinda cool and I look for her on every shot of 18. 2. Really happy for Duval.

OMG I noticed that as well. Just awful. Also, Zach Johnson's shirts are getting wayyyy out of hand as well.

Good for Duval making the cut. I was very happy to see him do that especially after "paying the toll" and taking the bogey at 17. You just sorta accept that you're probably gonna make bogey there and move on lol. Wish he still had the chances to play more often on tour. There are some weeks where he plays very well. If he could play 2-3 times per month he would make a lot more cuts.

I like Zinger, but still think Johnny's the best. Also, even though he's not an analyst in the booth, I think Duval is excellent. I actually think NBC will end up choosing between Duval and Azinger when Miller retires in 5 years or so. Next year will be Zingers last year as analyst since ESPN is losing the Open.

Don't forget Football Hooliganism. The English variety of which is probably the worst. No propriety and respect there.

english footy hoolies are virtually non existant now but i get your point. Our eastern european friends make us look tame these days.

I didn't know ESPN lost The Open. I think they do an excellent job covering it. I hope NBC plans on having as many hours of coverage as ESPN but I doubt it. But I like listening to Van Pelt crack a joke every now and then and yes, Azinger is a terrific analyst. Tom Rinaldi does a great job with features and interviews.

I'm sure they'll cover it just as much because TGC is airing it and they'll cover it to do death. You just won't see the marketing of it as well. ESPN markets golf so well when they cover it. I missed that during the US Open this year and we'll lose it in 2017 when The Golf Channel and NBC take the Open. Mike Tirico and Paul Azinger are great, but so are Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller. The one thing I won't miss about ESPN is Curtis Strange. I cannot stand him. He makes me put the mute button on. I like SVP and Andy North, though. It'll be interesting to see if TGC tries to get SVP back, but I doubt they will.

SVP has gotten a broader experience at ESPN so perhaps he's more marketable to other networks but if I were an exec at the Golf Channel, I'd bring him in to replace Lerner in a heartbeat. He would be such a breath of fresh air in the role Lerner plays.

Also, are we being rude by calling them British accents? Should we just be calling them "The" accent?

Actually you shouldn't call it an accent at all ;-)

Hey, I did put a wink there on purpose. Only thing is I can relate a bit, since Belgian people sometimes have something to say about the Netherlands 'accent' in Dutch.

Been watching the Open Championship on ESPN and so far the coverage has been excellent even with all the weather problems. The one thing that is obvious is that Paul Azzinger has a real hard on for Tiger. Azzinger could only wish in his wildest dreams to have a career record like Woods, love him or hate him.

Good call. My eyes suck. I find myself really pulling for DJ with this tournament. Real screw job for those guys having to play in that mess with little sleep. Meanwhile the profoundly lucky Refief Goosen missed the weather and slept in. That guy gets all the breaks. I've never seen a player who gets all the good kicks along with missing the wind and getting to sleep.

Holly Sonders could learn a lot from Rinaldi, imo.

    • I have an update… I don't have much of a response, because the fact that they would ADD the numbers for the lead and trail shoulder together… I mean, wow. I was giving them too much credit. Nobody would think to assume they were doing THAT. That's beyond comical. One of the biomechanists I talked to put it this way: "So if I squatted down and went from 180 to 90 deg knee angle, then I would say 180 deg range of motion because I have two knees?" I'd type more (maybe), but honestly, I'm laughing a bit too hard. 🤣 Update: Mini Manavian blocked me on Instagram, so I cannot see his post showing Bryson with about 50° of range of motion (with a driver) from P4 to P7, and 75° only if you go out to the mid-follow-through. What a terrible loss for me. 😉
    • Thanks, interesting to read. The swing is definitely very timing dependent. I hit it consistently I guess but consistently bad.
    • I've shot 91-74 on the same day before. Couple of years ago played a two round tournament on Bethpage Black. I shot 72 in the first round and 90 in the second. First round I played very well. Second round I played okay, but had about 5 shots that hit the lips of bunkers and bounced down into them. A couple of those wound up in footprints - I was unamused - and I failed to get them out. Anyway - lots of bunkers and my bunker play isn't great and then add a couple of footprints and me getting pretty tired and it added up to a lot.  Only you can really tell though what's causing the variance. It might be that your swing is very timing dependent and when it's timed well you play well and when it's not then it goes all over the place. In that case, some lessons and working on your swing could be the key. If it's more that you tend to feel like you hit it fairly consistently, but you have days where the shots come off and days where they don't, then that's more likely a course management issue. If that's what you need to work on, then you could read Lowest Score Wins and build a plan of attack based on that.  Rest assured though that a pretty big range from high to low is fairly common. Even PGA Tour players often have 18-20 shot spreads from best to worst rounds in a season. It's a common affliction among golfers.
