No matter what I do during setup and backswing, my elbow is "super deep" at top and I get majorly across the top.  I usually see the head of the club in my vision at the top.  I've tried everything to get the right arm in a 90 degree angle at the top.  More club face control going back, head cover drill, etc. Nothing is changed.  I hit it pretty good cause I'm athletic.  275 off the tee, 160 with 8 iron.  Should I keep my left arm along chest when I take the club back? any tips?

Try this drill from the thread below. It basically shows you where the top of your backswing should be and how to keep the right elbow in the correct position.

I find it impossible to have any control of my right arm in my swing.  I only feel I can control the left arm, and the right arm follows.

Look at Erik's position with his left arm, it is straight as a board at the top of the back swing.

If your left elbow is bending drastically at the top, then the right arm follows.

If your seeing the club head at the top of the back swing (John Daly was noted for the club head almost at waist height at the top),

the arms would be pretty vertical and the left elbow bends quite a bit.

When the left elbow bends, players often cast the club from this position.

I suggest checking your left arm position and less of the right arm until your able to make the correction.

Even with a tee or glove in the right armpit, the elbow still gets behind you?

Are you doing it slow, 30% speed swings or just regular speed practice?

Well, putting a head cover between my armpit feels way too restricted.  I tried two things that kinda helped.  I focused on keeping the right back side of my armpit connected to my back for the hole swing.  Also, you can try pushing your two boobs together for the hole swing

It's supposed to feel restricted if your right elbow is flying, because what you feel as normal is wrong.

Yeah, but I wouldn't want that feeling in the real swing.

I don't know. I've never seen your swing. Have you recorded it normally and while holding a tee under your armpit? If the tee under the armpit swing fixes the issue, it's exactly the feel you want in the real swing.

You don't want to keep the elbow actually on the torso. If that's how you're holding the tee, you're likely doing something wrong. It's impossible to know for certain unless people can see your swing.

Right.

@StefanUrkel , changing the picture shouldn't feel "comfortable" at first.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
