What'd You Shoot Today?

My goal this summer is to play bogey golf or better. I've managed to shoot 90 several times but haven't busted into the 80's yet. I have been playing off the tee much better lately at the range. Took it to the course today and shot 48 on the front. Nothing felt right and I almost skipped the back 9. Decided to play and shot a 41 on the back which is a much more difficult 9.

So 48/41. Finally got into the 80's

Shot an 81 w/ 2 birdies on the Glen Annie golf course in Santa Barbara, CA. Should have been at least 4 shots lower w/ some rushed shots due to a crowded back 9. That and the dog-leg left par 5 that I drove through the fairway and almost into the hazard because I had no idea how much the carry was to the bottom of the hill.

The last round I played I shot 74. The previous round before that I couldn't break 80 so I decided to try a few things and it worked like a charm. Went 38/36 and was pretty pleased except for my putting which could improve a lot.

Shot an Even 35...

Started out the day wtih 3 bogeys and played the last 6 holes at 3 under which I was happy about. Plus I played with 3 people I dont normally play with some it was nice to play that well in front of others...

This week I have shot a

39 (+3)
34 (-1)
35 (E)
35 (E)

Pretty happy with my consistency... Now to the weekend I may play some rounds on the par 3 course to save money and work on the short game

By far broke my personal best today. Played Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island, Florida. I will preface this post with a notice that I have never broken 80 in my life before. Today I shot a 73. A huge accomplishment for me and gives me some major confidence to become a good player in the very near future. I have been playing for three and half years and have always been an athlete but never a golfer. This is the greatest and worst game at the same time. Because my next time out I will probably shoot a 92....either way it was definately the round of my life....My handicap is calculated by Golfshot Software for the iphone...so i have no idea if its completely accurate but i have shot numerous 80-82's but just never gotten over the hump....threw that in there just so you guys did not think i was BS's yall....

I shot 80 today, but it's probably the best back 9 recover I've had yet.

Started off the front with four straight bogeys, a sand save par on a par five, two more bogeys, and finally a two putt par on number nine (first green I hit all day) for a seven over 43. Then I started the back off with a birdie out of a bunker (drove it about 300 over the corner into a bunker in front of the green, bunker shot to two feet.) Par, Par, Bogey, Bogey, Par, Par, Par for a back nine one over 37.

The difference with the back nine was I figured out that I was swinging too hard and couldn't control anything.

Shot a 6 over on the back 9 of my local "executive" course (par 62 - 31 p/side). 3rd time I have shot this score here and today I beat my brother-in-law for the 1st time ... serves him right for getting me back into this game after all these years.

I was on pace to shoot my lowest score ever last week, until I got to the 16th hole. I sliced my tee shot far right, right into the woods. Then I did it again on my next shot. Ended up with a 9 on that hole and it killed my score and I ended up shooting my high average. Goes to show how a mental lapse on one hole can do you in.

Shot my season best 78 yesterday. Played my local course, Par 71 - 6500 yards. It was my first round with my new Ping i15's..they felt great. I had 31 putts in all which is a miracle for me. Played the 4 par fives in 2 under par and stayed out of trouble off the tee. All in all I'm stoked about it and cant wait to get back onto the putting green to try to get the putts average down even more.

Fairways - 53.8%
GIR - 38.9%

On Thursday, I shot an 83 and was pretty unhappy with the round. I went out today with the wife and our 10 year old and shot a 99. Sprayed 5 in the woods off the tee which explains a lot. But I was REALLY happy with my round today even with the crummy score! Two sand saves (leading to one putts from 4' or less) and three other one putts on crummy scoring holes, one from 25'. I did miss a 20' eagle putt, and to make it even worse, I three putted that hole!!!

90.....44/46 5/14 FW, 6 GIR, 34 putts. 1 birdie, 6 pars, 5 bogies, 4 doubles, and 2 triples. Putting was just so so, irons were decent, but the tee shot is killing me. I can't hit a fairway with a 2 hybrid right now. It's tough to score when you hit your 3rd shot from the tee 4 times in a round!

Played yesterday and shot a 50 on the Front nine. I thought, here we go this should get interesting. I ended up shooting a -4 under 32 on the back birding 11, 15, 16, 17, 18. Finish with an 82 which is actually my new lowest round ever. And probably the lowest 9 holes in a long time.

    • Finally, birthday number seven, just short in two & pitched to about 5 feet.  front nine all done! Also, got a lucky eagle on three, caught a nine iron a smidge  fat, never left the  pin landed short and rolled in the hole
    • @collegefbfan-That is a lot of text in a row. Paragraphs please.-Tough for my old eyes to read. The article is mebbe worse than the other one-This guy does not even 'write good'. It is not worth the time to read or discuss-Really. There are bad instructors-He is a worse writer than many bad instructors are bad instructors.

    • Thanks for including me on this article.  I really appreciate it.  I will try to explain what my objectives are and what I have done in the past with other instructors.  I have been to five instructors in 4 years.  Some of that time included a year layoff.  I told each one that my main goal was to make good contact and hit the ball straight, I didn't care about crazy long distance.  I know other things matter when hitting different clubs, where the ball is placed in the stance, rough or sand, etc.  1st instructor (about an hour away) was PGA certified, and he was more worried about me watching him hit his 6 iron straight than teaching me anything.  For the little time he watched me hit, he watched me hit ground ball after ground ball with no advice or suggestions.  2nd instructor (1.5 hours away) was better, but it was more about club lag/lean without really telling me how to do it.  3rd instructor (about 40 minutes away) was PGA certified and said he taught a relaxed swing.  I never really got what that meant.  4th instructor (1.75 hours away) was at a very nice country club and PGA certified with all the stuff a student would want.  Never looked at grip.  Also told me that the "wrists take care of themselves in the swing".  Really?  Have you seen all the questions about wrist hinge and timing?  Tells me to get weight on my lead foot/leg but no drills or thought processes on how to accomplish it.  Most current instructor (50 minutes away) looked at everything.  Checks grip, has a way to have my weight on my lead foot/leg, etc.  I said hey when do I come back.  He says after you have become comfortable with these "short" shots and making consistent contact, we will discuss a good time for another lesson.  I know being PGA certified matters to a lot of folks.  I sort of relate it to this:  I have had my vehicles worked on by my step grandfather, my father in law, my brother in law, even myself.  None of us are ASE certified, but it got fixed without tons of wrong guesses as to what it could be.  I am just a 50 year old guy that should have taken the game up 20-25 years ago.  I have always liked the sport a lot.  Just wanna be a guy that can hit the ball consistently and not hook, slice, and shank every other swing.  Many thanks you all.
