What'd You Shoot Today?

Shot a 86 @ Emies Muni in Davenport, IA. Winter took it's toll on the "feel" shots, but all and all not disapointed one bit. It's been a long time to be able to enjoy the outdoors in this part of the country, so I took solice in that. Gentle winds, low 60's, grass was suprisingly green through out the course considering all the snow/rain this winter. Just a great day to be out. Birdied the last hole, so I got to leave the course on a high note. Only complaint is Emies raises their prices ever year, and not by small amounts, it went up 3 to walk plus 2 on the cart. They need to chill out and remember that there a public course

In my bag, I carry

Played my first official 9-hole round this year.

36 - (5 pars, 2 birdies, 2 bogies)

16 putts
4 fairways (57%)
5 greens (55%)

Was very happy with my iron play and ball striking. Driving was adequate although nothing felt completely solid (2 wayward drives left me no opportunity to hit these greens in regulation). Short game left little to be desired (up-n-down percentage was a whopping 33% - 1 for 3).

Overall I was very encouraged. Going from a combo set to all blades and changing shafts from PX 6.0 to Rifle 6.5's hopefully will payoff!

If you hit every green in regulation and had 22 putts you would shoot 40…..something ain't adding up…..

33 for 9 holes.

It was a Par-3 course so par was 27, but I don't have to tell people that if they don't ask, right?

Missed 8/9 greens (Yessssss!)
Made 4/8 up/downs
Put one in the water (Oops)
14 putts.

I'm satisfied. Probably just call it a year.

Finally had a day when the wind wasn't blowing yesterday and thought it would be an easy day, however shot 46-48. Perhaps I score better when I have the wind to help me. That did it, I'm moving to West Texas.

    • Great point - my experience from the 2004 Oakland Hills Ryder Cup. I got 4 tickets for Friday, had some buddies go with me and we saw shots on about 4 holes. You really have to decide who you want to see, then try to jump ahead to see them somewhere on the back 9. If you got into the grandstands then you'd likely have a good view only of that green/tee box.  Sidenote: I knew a guy who was a member at Birmingham CC, and he was a marshal on the 18th hole and he was out there all day, both morning and afternoon groups. And he had 1 group play the hole in the morning and another in the afternoon. Huge corporate tents around the 18 green, along with some grandstands. And you get to see maybe 6 or 7 shots counting the approach and putts.  Learned my lesson, I have no issue in going to another Ryder Cup, especially at the prices they want for 2025. I think it was $40 for a practice round (went to one of those as well) and maybe $75 for Friday/Saturday, $100 for Sunday. And it was "limited" to 20,000 tickets/day, which is still very crowded to follow 4 pairings around the course.
    • Of course he can score in the low 70's in a really short course driving it that short. But the course rating is going to be in the 60's so is not like he can call himself a scratch player.
