shot 42 on front nine( par 35 ) in horrible conditions then the skies opened up. After waiting 45 min in club house they decided to shut the course down since the rain was falling at about 4 inches an hour. The course should have never opened.

Question, If I'm walking.. but I get paired up with a few guys that are riding.. if they offer me a spot in the cart, am I allowed to take it?

Played a different 9 hole course today (35.5/106) twice. Our town only has 2 nine hole courses and I don't normally play this one. Shot a 48 the first time through and a 45 the second time through. A total of 93. This is the first time in 2 weeks that I've been able to play. I've been down all week with a pretty bad cold/fever. I've only worked 3 days and this is the most activity I've had all week. The first nine was truly "warming up".(I did comply with the rules) I couldn't leave on a 48 though (call me vain) so I played again. I hit 6/9 fairways, which is great for me. I could really tell my ball striking has suffered through not hitting any balls this week. My home course is having their "club championship" in 2 weeks. It's a 2 day 36 hole tournament, flighted by handicap. I would like to do my best, also I'm getting tired of just wanting to do better at this game. I feel that with some consistent practice I could really make a good showing and make a good breakthrough in my game. So far my lowest score has been an 87. I'm ready to take it a step or two farther, I want to break 80. I know I can do it, I just keep pussin out when it comes to practice. I have the equipment, I know the drills, I have the time, and the weather is starting to cool down a bit. I'm DONE with excuses! I'm gonna cut my grass down this afternoon and get down to business......

Shot a disappointing 91 on a very disappointing course... see the "Worst Courses Played" thread for pictures of the horrific greens.  Shot 42 on the "front" (Par 34/5510/65.6/117) nine but then blew up with a 49 on the back.  I've been fighting a cold all week, so I think I got a little weak as the round went on.  I had two doubles on the front, but had four... along with an ugly triple to start the back.  On the 360 yard par four 14th I wasted two fantastic drives.  Both times I drove it through the end of the fairway, and both times I dumped my gap wedge into the junk in front of the green and carded a double.  I putted pretty well considering how horrible the greens were.

I rushed myself a lot today.. but it was a good round to prepare myself for tomorrow's outing.

My driver started off good, then went completely sour.. then i adjusted a few things and was killing it.

Not as many par and birdie opportunities as I was hoping for.. courtesy of the poor wedge game.. [god that just ****ing makes or breaks a hole].

Need to figure out ball position during iron shots.. i was flinging them around like a doofus.

All in all, learned things, did decently.. but lost a few important balls.. sigh.

My recent rounds:

I played 27 holes both yesterday(friday) and today(saturday).  (75.1cr 141slope par72)

Friday was stress free.....38-37=75...Nothing eventful happened...I just kept the ball in play and it was without drama.   I shot 39 for my 3rd nine....

Today was different...42-35.  The entire front9 was a disaster.  I never lost a ball or hit a hazard, but I missed greens and could not score.  Pars were a pipe dream...LOL It was weird because I didn't hit the ball that bad.  The 2nd nine was an effortless -1 so I ended up with a surprise 77.  After 9 holes, I thought a complete blowup was coming!     Then for good measure I played a 3rd nine and shot an even par 36.  The 3rd nine was effortless.....(1 hard double on the 247yd par3/2 birdies/the rest pars)

Shot a 57 on 9 today at Mosholu golf course in The Bronx, NY.

Really need to work on my driver and 3 wood off the tee, and every now and then I'll try to hit an iron out of the grass and it will just skid off to the right and go into some bushes...

On the upside, it wasn't terribly packed, and it's only a 30 minute subway ride from my apartment, so I think I found my weekend practice facility for the rest of the season.

After walking 18 holes on Twilight yesterday.. time to go for another 18. Thankfully this time there will be carts involve since i'm with my buddies. My body couldn't handle another 18 walk.

Hopefully I can last the 18.

Decided to play from the longest tees at a local course today (blue tees: par 72 72.5/139) and ended up shooting a 96; 50 on the front and a 46 on the back. I actually struck the ball well, but my shots were off target and putting was difficult on the recently aerated greens.

I played with a buddy yesterday on a course I've played 3 times and shot even par 71.  +3 on the first nine (started us on the back) and -3 on the second nine (actually the front).  The round included two 3 putts, one ball in the water (2nd shot on par 5), one hozel rocket on a chip (still made par on the par 5), a sand save from a greenside bunker, and an 80 yard sand shot.  It was a scrambling round with a little bit of everything.

Last Friday I shot -1 on another course.  A lot of hard work over the summer is starting to pay off in scores.

The most difficult distance in golf is the six inches between your ears.

I know everyone posts these great scores, I can only tell you that I sucked today! Pulled everything to the left. I wont bother telling you my score.

Played two courses yesterday, shot a 95 and 99. Brought my handicap down to 26 baby lol. 13 hours of golf in one day. 5:45am-6:45pm

Sincerely, Jim

81 , Par 71, 71.0/131, 6200yds

Not a tough course by the numbers but you need to be pretty exacting with your tee shots.  The landing areas are small and the trouble is plentiful.  I lost a couple strokes to bad club selection hitting through fairways into hazards.  A couple questionable 3 putts I should have taken more time on.  I swear breaking 80 must be mental, I keep doing stupid things costing me a stroke or two to keep me out of the 70's!

Brad

88. Ugh..... Just one of those days where nothing went right. As close as I could come to not having fun while playing golf. It happens.

    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
    • I've got my pain mostly under control and the meds are working.   I'd like to join.
    • I would definitely attend if my calendar allows.
    • Finland: I've played Mid-Night Golf in Finland. Really cool. I looked at the schedule for my week out there and I saw that we were teeing off at 9PM... Feels weird, 9 PM tee time. But it was really great. We finished well after 1AM and sat around and drank on the golf course terrace. It was cool. It's really easy to loose track of time when the sun doesn't set.  Here's a picture of me in Finland hitting my approach on the final hole. It's roughly 1:30AM in this photo.  Egypt: Another cool experience was playing golf in Egypt. The entire course is sand. The greens are called browns, cuz they are just sand with oil poured on them and pounded down a bit. Your ball gets kind of oily when you putt, but the caddy cleans it for you after each hole. You carry around a little piece of fake grass (maybe 2 foot square) and place your ball on it each time before you hit. That is except when you go into a sandtrap. The sandtraps are just areas marked off where you don't get to use your little piece of astro-turf. Sometimes they are dug down a bit to make a bunker, sometimes not.  Spain: No special events or anything, but I played a bunch of golf in Spain in the mid-1990's. At that time Spain's economy wasn't doing the best and Europe hadn't quite switched to the Euro. So Spain was using the Peseta. The country of Spain has some incredibly breathtaking courses. (incredible scenery in general) But because of the conversion from the dollar to the Peseta (If memory serves it was 150 to 1), I got to play them for what I remember as being incredibly inexpensive prices. Gorgeous country and really nice people.  Holland or The Netherlands: I lived for a couple of years in what's called The Flevoland in Holland. It's one of the Dutch provinces and it's all land that was recovered from the sea. So, it's all under sea-level. One of the courses I played a few times out there had flags on every hole to show just how deep the water would be if it wasn't for the dams.
