Shot 40 today w/ my new set of Adams irons. They felt buttery smooth except for a few mishits, which gave nice feedback. Still getting used to them though

81... my lowest round. The greens was been repaired so the ball was jumping a lot, missed 5 birdie putts because of the state of the greens, but it was a good round.

Scored an 81 yesterday (39 front 42 back).

Got a birdie on a par 5 after my drive rolled through the rough to the edge of the water. There was about a 5 foot alligator on the edge 30 feet behind us. Made a quick look for my ball, took the drop, hit the shot on the green from 200 yards out and nailed the putt for birdie.

On another par 5 that played 617 yards from the tees we played (yes, 617 yards), I scored par. We actually played 2 balls, one from our tees and another from the back tees (just for fun - it was the end of the day and no one else was behind us) which were playing 656 yards (yes, 656 yards). From the back tees, I hit driver, 4 iron outta the rough, 3 wood, chip and putt for par. From our tees, I hit driver, 4 iron, 7 iron, putt from off the green then tap-in for par.

I love this game.

I shot a 45 in my league match today. I didn't play all that well. I was really eratic off the tee. But my chipping and putting were decent, and my partner played really well, so we won our match 2 and 1.

I had an interesting birdie on the longer par 5. Sliced my tee shot way right. Then I hit a really good 5 iron, over long grass, through a hole in the trees to get back to the fairway. Then hit a nice short iron to just below the hole, and knocked in about a 6 footer.

Probably played the worst game this year at my old home course. Havn't played the course in a year. It was soo hot and I was wearing pants. Came an hour early and practised putting and chipping. Then our tee times get mixed up and I went to the range, Funniest thing: My hands were sweating so bad I couldn't hold onto the club, I shanked everything. I was absolutly hammering my drives on the range, I looked like a tour pro.

As soon as I got on the course, I couldn't hit anything, My hands were slipping and I was opening the club face like crazy, didn't hit 1 solid ball.

Played 27 holes didn't keep score at all.. chipped in on #2 on the last nine we did for birdie.

So I suppose this is rather funny, depending on how you look at it. I played a quick 9 this a/m at my local muni course after a 5-day beach trip during which I spent the entire time devouring several golf-swing books (specifically, Mike Adams "Break 100 Now!," Stan Utley, "The Art of Putting," and Mike Adams, "Total Golf"). The result: I shot my worst 9-hole total in my adult golfing life. I think I added 15 strokes to my last 9-hole total at this course. Anyway, here's the ugly truth:

2420 yards
31.0/98

Total: 65
F: 0
GIR: 0
U/D: 0
Putts: 21

Holy smokes!

This morning played my first 9 holes since last summer. Scored a 51. Two horrendous holes on 7 & 8 cost me 3-4 strokes. Finished nicely though with a par on 9 and my best iron shot of the day. Mid and long irons played really well for my first outing in a while. Driver and 3-wood were awful and short game showed lack of practice.

Probably a 55-60... on 9 holes.

Second 9 holes after straining several muscles in my chest and not being able to play or practice my full swing for about 8 weeks. I could only practice putting for weeks. As a result my putting was great, 1.67 putts per hole.

I cannot hit anything lower than 7I to save my life, so I switched to the hop-100 yards strategy: horrible tee shot, then only 8I-PW until I hit the green. I can land a PW on the green from exactly 100 yards at least 80% of the time.. That's pretty much all I'm good at right now.

Had a miraculous moment on hole 9. Strong dogleg right that fits my bad driver slice. Managed to hit a 5I to about 80 yards from the green. Wedged it about 20 feet from the hole for birdie and..... putted it short!

One par, one bogey and a bunch of blow-up holes... but I did have fun playing.

76, blacks, Lake View .

I played at La Costa (what a dump - and I'm not joking much at all) on Monday with borrowed clubs and the first 12 holes, well, I won't talk about them. The last six I played +1. Nobody in my foursome made a putt outside of 6' all day, except for one from about 50 on the last hole (and technically, as it was from the fringe, it wasn't a putt. ).

Shot an extremely frustrating 48 tonight in league (nice way to follow up a 38 from last week, eh?). First hole I 3 jacked for bogey, parred the second. Pulled my tee shot OB on the third. Never got my head back after that. First time this season I let one shot ruin my round.....won't let that happen again. I could have easily salvaged a halfway decent round.

I just joined today and haven't played today so I'll post my last score which was about 10 days ago - I shot my lowest ever score of 81, in a tournament!!

I was only 3 over after 11 but had a couple of doubles on the back 9, ah well getting closer to breaking that elusive 80!!

I played yesterday with my brother and I shot an 89 and he shot an 85. We haven't played together in over 5 years. I have only played a couple of times in the last couple of years and he hasn't played in 5 years. I used to shoot lower 80's and my brother was always mid 70's. He is 65 and I am 57. I think his age has slowed him down a little, but he still showed signs of his past skills. We are planning to play lots more often and I expect him to be under 80 in a short time.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
