Had league last night and shot a very average 36. Hit the ball well off the tee but less than average with my irons. I hit 6 greens, but only had a couple short birdie putts on two short par 5's...one of which I missed. The only bogey was a 4 foot par putt that I mis-read...

Second night of league last night. I was giving my opponent 9 shots for 9 holes. My short game was absolutely horrific. I didn't do anything inside 60 yards. I started Double to his bogey. Down 10. I follow up with a three putt double on two to his 25 foot birdie. Down 13 after two. Despite him rolling in two shots from the fringe I was able to get it within 4 shots by the end. Unfortunately My wife only beat his partner by a net 3 so we lost totals by 1 shot. I have never gotten less out of more. After nearly driving the par 4 8th I had to scramble for a par and on the 340 yard 9th I was 35 yards off the green and knocked my second over the green. My third comming back I tried to flop to keep it on the top tier and skulled it down to the front fringe. I couldn't get my 40 footer close on the way back and missed the bogey. My chipping was poor, my pitching was worse and I still can't make anything between 6 and 12 feet.

Shot 39/35 today to shoot my first sub-par 9 holes of the year. Woohoo! I was actually disappointed because I had a 6-footer for birdie on 18 that I thought was for 35 and lipped it out. I forgot that I'd reached a par 5 in two earlier and two-putted for a birdie there. D'oh! So -1 on the back for me, woo woo woo!

Anyway... Front nine I hit the ball okay. Really took awhile to get loosened up.

39, 2/7 FW, 14 putts (14' average first putt), 2/9 GIR, 4/5 UD, 0/2 SS (there are the three bogeys, yes).

Back nine it came together reasonably well. The only bogey I got was largely due to a drive on the 17th that didn't quite fade back enough against the wind, and an approach shot that went long onto a small dirt patch making the chip for birdie difficult. Put it to 10 feet and just missed the par putt. The birdies came on 16 (short but way uphill par 4 - hit 3-iron 9-iron and made about an 18-footer) and on 13, 500-yard par 5 I reached with a driver and a hybrid. Two-putted from 40 feet for a birdie.

35, 2/7 FW, 16 putts (22' avg. first), 7/9 GIR, 1/1 SS, 0/1 UD.

The fairways I missed on the back were literally by a few feet. So no real sweat there.

Totals:
74, 4/14 FW, 30 putts (18' average first putt), 9/18 GIR, 4/6 UD, 1/3 SS.

It was really windy and only about 55 degrees today, so I'm pleased. I really just played a shot at a time and didn't let the bad swings on the "warmup nine" (the front) bug me.

Went out today in 46 degree and raining weather...getting ready for the open qualifier...struggled on the front with a 40 but brought it home with a 36 which isn't bad in the poor weather. Gotta work on the swing though :o

Congrats to both of you! pretty good considering the weather. Our league got called off the other night but I was in a zone before it did and I think I would have been able to post a good 9 hole score.

Anyway congrats to both and good luck at the US open Qualifying round neudi

Shot 80 (70.1/126) 37/43 today. Very happy with the front nine, back nine I guess you could say I choked because I was on my way to having my best round ever. Anyway the worst part about it was on 18 i needed a par to shoot 79. Hit a 290 yard drive down the middle of the fairway. From 74 yards out stuffed a lob wedge to about 12 feet and three putted. Anyway it was a nice round though.

our regional golf association (Metropolitan Golf Association) organizes a 2-man best ball(net) tournament, where each golf club is being represented. Saturday me and my partner crushed our local opposition by recording -13 net score (3 natural birdies with combination of 2006 rac MB and TP/Black!). Second best team came in at -9... no contest
Followed it up with a rather boring 77 on sunday... I'd say it was a nice weekend

79 in league today. Won 3-1 points. Tied the first six holes, then won 7 and 8 to win the match. Felt good. Drizzly, cold, yucky weather today too. But glad to get 18 in.

Today was a terrible day on the golf course. I shot a 42 on the front nine which all in all wasnt horrible for me, but I got something in my eye on the eight hole while im hitting my approach shot which ended up ending my day on the fourteenth hole.

To boot we get to the tenth tee and I cant stop trying to get whatever it is out of my eye and we realize that the group in front of us has left and now there is a fivesome (old ladies) in front of us. So politely after the twelfth hole I approach the fivesome on the thirteenth tee and ask them if we (a threesome) can play through. They tell me that the group in front of us did us a favor by leaving and we cant play through. Needless to say with that and whatever was in my eye, I started to hit the ball terribly and just asked the ranger on the fourteenth fairway to take me in. The ranger ended up breaking the fivesome up but at that point I said let me get out of here. Anyway so that was my day. But I come home to see the handicap revision done and Im in single digits (by a hair) for the first time in my life so that is the good news of the day.

Shot a 77 today. Hit 8 fairways, 10 greens, took 32 putts. Was barely missing those putts, too - had several that I hit exactly how I wanted that just didn't move into the hole. Overall, not bad considering the wind and whatnot we had today (and the fact that I wasn't even supposed to get to golf today)...

83 on a very tough private course with huge hills (every shot up or down, virtually nothing flat). Couple holes where I got myself in trouble thinking I hit a great drive... happens.

Shot a 35 in league last night with 3 birdies and 2 bogeys. Both bogeys were 3 putts. I read more break than I should have on the 2nd putts. I felt like I was putting great, but just misreading badly...very frustrating.

Otherwise, I hit the ball well...especially off the tee with the r7 3 wood. Love that thing. Hit the irons either really good or just plain bad. I'm still working on a few things but its coming around.

Fairways and Greens.

Shot 39 on front nine, started back nine and went par, par, bogey and then the thunder and lightning started coming and that was the end of that. Missed a four footer on the front (misread).

Ehh. Shot an 82 today at my course. It was rainy, cold and just not a good day to golf. I'm not that dissapointed with it. Hopefully I can get out early tomorrow and shoot a sub-80 round. I made some silly mistakes that cost me a couple.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
