What'd You Shoot Today?

96 on a perfect day (except for the score, of course). I couldn't stop slicing my new driver, my putting on the front nine was abysmal, and I badly topped my fairway metal off the tee both times I took it out of my bag (the second one struck the tee marker ahead of me and ricocheted into a pond some 100 yards to my 4:00). I had a wonderful ballstriking day with my irons, though, and they kept my score from descending into triple digits.

First time out in 2010! I wanted to shoot lower then the temperature (47F), but scored 49/50. Had 39 putts. On the positive side, I was only two over on the four par 3's, and had three GIR's on the other holes, but it was too many doubles, and one triple. Still, a fun day, if you can golf under the clouds at 44-47 degrees. I was walking and pretty much overheated from too many layers.

By the way, you southerners will never know how much easier it is to chip a ball out of a snow packed bunker. Never thought I would like snow on the course, but it sure beats hard packed sand.

Why not show off really quickly haha...I shot under par today! I played my local 9 hole course today for the first time, The Lakes at El Segundo, and shot 1 under par. 2 birdies, 1 bogey.

It's a really easy course, but hey, hitting that last putt in to score under par will probably never get old!

I managed to sneak out for a round while in Alabama last weekend and shot 50-44. It's amazing how much the golfing brain forgets in 2 months.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Played for the first time last Thursday morning in Myrtle Beach at Myrtlewood - Palmetto course, it was pretty nice for being so wet. I hit my new clubs (Driver,3W, 3h,4h) and irons pretty well for the first time out, short game was horrible. I was too worried about the wet turf/mud so I counted 13 fat or bladed chips, add in 3 buried bunker balls that took 2 shots to get out each, that killed my score. I shot a 113, last year my average for the year was 98, but I did hit 8 fairways, which is really good for me and had 34 putts (36 was my average last year for 21 rounds). Overall a good day, it was nice to be outside in the sun, even if it was 45 degrees and breezy! Let the golfing season begin!

2. Par 3 off the tee where my 7 iron hitting FAT - I was forcing after a back to back birdie

3. Missed 2x 4 ft putt

Second round back out after 5 month home building hiatus. Shot 84 (44-40) last week on the same golf course (Wildwood Golf Club, Village Mills, Texas: 72 rating/127 slope), struck it poorly as expected. Bounced back today with a solid 78 (38-40), more solid shots today. Irons felt better, still weak off the tee, maybe 250 at my longest all day. Putted and chipped well, which really helped out keeping the score manageable.

44 today. 18 putts, 3/7 fairways, and 3 GIR. The missed fairways were just barely off. Playing lift, clean and cheat though as the fairways are plugging still with all the snow melt/rain we've had. Using the 3H off every tee except the par 3's. My driver is enroute, and is supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

Mistakes.....there were many, but 3 stick out as extremely fixable!!

1. Duffed a greenside chip on a par 5 which would've given me another GIR and probably would've saved me a stroke.

2 & 3. two horrid lag putts which led to two 3-putts bogeys. 2 more strokes lost.

The local course here at MSU is opening up tomorrow and I'm ditching work in the morning to go shoot a round of 18 after a long winter layoff. Should be an ugly round, but damn it'll be awesome to be playing golf again.

54 / 44 = 98

Back nine was all bogeys with one par.

I need to work on:
- hitting the green on a short approach shot
- chipping close to the hole
- putting
...if I want to turn those bogeys into pars.
